Blackwood 7-Eleven Robbed at Knifepoint
Police have released video surveillance from the store in hopes someone will recognize the suspect.
The 7-Eleven on Church Street in Blackwood was robbed at knifepoint late Thursday night, police said.
Gloucester Township Police release surveillance video and images from the robbery Friday afternoon. The two-minute-plus video and the images are posted here on Patch.
Police urge anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect to contact police dispatch at 856-228-4500 or the township's crime tip line at 856-842-5560.
Police described the suspect as a white male who is between 30 and 40 years old, about 6 feet tall and between 170 and 190 pounds. The man reportedly was wearing a dark gray sweatshirt, a baseball hat, dark pants and white sneakers.
The suspect entered the store shortly before 11 p.m., poured himself a coffee and went to the check-out counter, where he produced a short knife and demanded the cash register's contents, Lt. Mike Harkins said.
The clerk, who was not injured in the crime, opened and stepped away from the cash register.
The suspect reached over the counter, grabbed some money and fled the store with the robbery's proceeds and coffee toward Cloverdale Road, Harkins said.

First a mugging at the CVS and now a robbery via knife-point at the 7-11...again. This is a few blocks from my house so I'm wondering where Blackwood is headed. Is my granddaughter going to be safe outside my house if I stay in this neighborhood? I'd really like to know what the people that live near these places think about what is going on and get other opinions about how to clean things up and make it safe around here.
I understand 'trucker tim's' comment but I'm more interested in stopping this kind of activity, that might eventually end with someone being killed in the commission of a crime, than catching the perpetrator after the fact. It has to become clear to people who want to participate in this type of activity that it is unsafe to do so rather than it be known that if you need cash you just stop at a business in Blackwood and help yourself. Hey, the worst that can happen is three meals a day and a warm place to sleep, right?

Paper beats rock; scissors beat paper; what beats knives? What is going to get the message across to people who see this behavior as an alternative to how everyone else gets what they need?
