Cherrywood Woman Charged in Assault on Cop

Police say the woman assaulted a police officer called to PNC Bank on a report of an irate customer.

A Cherrywood Apartments woman faces charges of assaulting and attempting to disarm a police officer at PNC Bank on Blackwood Clementon Road Monday morning.

Gloucester Township Police received a report of an irate customer at the bank at 9:19 a.m. Monday.

The initial responding police officer attempted to calm the patron, who continued to act disorderly and threatened to take the officer's weapon, according to Lt. Bob Stavola.

After back-up officers arrived on scene, the patron began fighting the officers as they attempted to take her into custody in the bank lobby. She attempted to disarm the initial responding officer and kicked a second officer in the chest, Stavola said.

Evelyn G. Hutton, 50, was charged with second-degree attempting to disarm a law-enforcement officer, third-degree resisting arrest and third-degree aggravated assault on police, as well as disorderly conduct, and was lodged in Camden County Jail on $30,000 bail.

No police officers were injured during the incident.
