'Dancing Shoplifter' Arrested

Several tips came into police after the suspect was dubbed the "Dancing Shoplifter" by Philly area media.

The so-called "Dancing Shoplifter" was arrested this week after Gloucester Township Police re-posted information about the early October case, including surveillace video footage from the Blackwood Clementon Road Kmart store, on the department's Facebook page.

Anthony DiVietro, 26, of the 500 block of the White Horse Pike, Stratford, was arrested Thursday after police received several phone calls identifying him as the shoplifter captured by Kmart's surveillance cameras on Oct. 1.

DiVietro is accused of attempting to steal dresses from the Kmart store. He tossed the dresses and fled from the store when confronted by a security guard, police said.

The surveillance video generated media buzz in the Delaware Valley this week after police recast it Wednesday on the department's Facebook page, with a Dancing with the Stars reference. Several Philadelphia TV news stations dubbed the suspect the "Dancing Shoplifter."

The police department's Facebook page has paid dividends this year, according to Chief W. Harry Earle.

"The implementation of social media in our police operations has expanded our reach and accessibility to the community resulting in successfully closing four cases since February of 2011," Earle said in a statement. "We are thankful for the media assistance and concerned citizens, who partnered with the police by taking the time to provide their tips to help solve this crime."

Gloucester Township Patch had posted the Kmart surveillance video showing the alleged shoplifting incident back on Oct. 4, after police initially released it to media via YouTube.

DiVietro was released on his own recognizance pending court following his arrest on Thursday.

Police have since pulled the video that shows DiVietro dancing in Kmart from their YouTube page.
