GTPD: Man Steals Taxi Driver's Cash, Phone

The suspect steals the cash and cell phone after the taxi driver stopped at a Blackwood Clementon Road business, then flees the taxi.

Gloucester Township Police hope the public can help identify the man who allegedly stole money and a cell phone from a taxi driver Monday morning.

On Tuesday, Gloucester Township Police Department Crime Stoppers released surveillance video that shows the suspect exit the taxi and flee the scene.

The crime occurred at the Blackwood Clementon Road Sunoco gas station at around 9:45 a.m.

The video initially shows the taxi driver exit his minivan and enter the convenience store at the gas station.

The suspect then exits from the minivan's rear, sliding door and leaves the area on foot while carrying a backpack.

Police describe the suspect as a thin, black male in his 20s. He was wearing a white, hooded sweatshirt, faded jeans and white sneakers at the time.

Police ask that anyone who can identify the suspect call the township's anonymous crime tip line at 856-842-5560 or police dispatch at 856-228-4500, or send an email to police@gtpolice.com.

The real crime is the way the cabbie parked.
