Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Hi, I'm Bill Duhart, Your New Patch Editor

Feel free to reach out to me at bill.duhart@patch.com if you have any questions or comments.

Hi Gloucester Township! My name is Bill Duhart and I'm your new Patch editor.

I've always believed my career should be devoted to helping make people's lives better. I've used journalism as a vehicle to do that.

I believe democracy is threatened when people are not informed. I think that threat looms especially large now with old models of news delivery, especially newspapers, challenged by a population that largely gets its information from the Internet. I believe Patch can provide some answers to this challenge.

I've been the editor of Haddon Patch, in Haddonfield and Haddon Township, for the past two years. Prior to that, I worked in the South Jersey/Philadelphia media market for nearly two decades. I spent 15½ years at the Courier-Post as an Internet editor, general assignment and beat reporter, and college and high school sports writer. I've traveled and reported from nearly every community in the tri-county area and learned what makes them tick. Some awards and recognition I received while at the Courier-Post include: First-place team coverage from the New Jersey Press Association for "The Neulander Trail" in 2003; and for "The Deptford Mall Shooting" in 1997. Other awards include first-place team coverage of "September 11 Aftermath" in 2002 from the Philadelphia Press Association, and an individual first-place award for "The Life and Times of John Chaney" from the Garden State Association of Black Journalists in 1999.

Other career highlights include working as a tape editor for Fresh Air with Terry Gross, the award-winning National Public Radio daily program; as a reporter and anchor for WCAU Radio; a television news writer for WTXF Fox Philadelphia; and a freelance video writer for the New Jersey Network.

Every job I've had in my career uniquely prepares me for this awesome opportunity to serve Gloucester Township with the best journalism and community forum in the Delaware Valley and perhaps the country. It is my honor to be your Local Editor and I'm humbled by the opportunity to serve you.

Mr. Bill Duhart, come on down! Gloucester Twp. may be a bit different than Haddonfield, but it sounds like you bring quite the portfolio. I look forward to introducing you to the best kept sports secret in this area—youth recreational tennis.

Philly Inquirer story

"Wrong address on driver's license snags Camden County official"
Jan Hefler, Inquirer Staff Writer

On a blustery day last month, police pulled over a Camden County elected official for chatting on the cellphone while driving.

After paying a $133 fine, Freeholder Ian Leonard was left to explain why his driver's license showed he did not live in the county where he serves and votes.

In New Jersey, elected officials must live in the town or county they represent. Residency became an issue in recent court battles involving state Senate candidate Carl Lewis, the Olympic track and field champion, and Assemblywoman Gabriela Mosquera (D., Gloucester).

In 2009, Leonard was appointed to the all-Democratic, seven-member Board of Chosen Freeholders to fill a vacancy and then won an election last year to retain his seat.

But his driver's license listed his address as Browns Mills, a section of Pemberton in Burlington County.

The license, which he says he has updated, became public after he was stopped Feb. 28 in Gloucester City. As the freeholder in charge of public works, he said he was out surveying road conditions and noticed an area where work was needed. When he placed a call to the city administrator to discuss the problem, he said, an officer pulled him over for illegally using a handheld cellphone while driving.

Wow GTWATCHDAWG nothing like posting a comment that has nothing to do with the topic. This was supposed to be comments about the editor coming to patch. Want explain how your post has anything to do with the new editor?
This is supposed to be comments about the new editor of GT Patch not your personal propaganda about things that have nothing to do with that topic. Can’t you let the guy open his article and see the nice things people say about him or patch or at least comments welcoming him? I understand with your record in elections GTWatchdawg you have nothing to be proud of but this guy is probably proud he got this job don’t destroy that for him by posting your ridiculous remarks.

Sorry about that Bill Some people just don’t get it I mean if he was suggesting a topic to cover at least he could suggest one that referred to GT like how John Schmidt a resident of Gloucester City came into Gloucester Township and harassed school board members, one of which actually was harassed so badly by the Paid employee of Governor Chris Christie, and self proclaimed attack dowg, had charges filed against him at the GT Police department.
So why is it that patch didn't you do a story on that anyway? John Schmidt is a Gov Chris Christie Employee of the Turnersville DMV hired after he wrote a Forestry Grant for his future employer Crystal Evans the Branch manager who was recently terminated after charges of STALKING, DOMESTIC VIOLANCE and HARASSMENT CHARGES filed against her. Schmidt is member of the Clementon Housing Authority, yet he does not live in and never did move there as he agreed too. He lives in Gloucester City, accepted the appointment under the condition he move to Clementon then never did and never resigned his position on the board. (Schmidt’s acceptance of an appointment under false pretenses is a potential crime. Patch could expose that story, after all that is news and Patch is a “news” outlet right?)
I mean let’s be fair at least this is a story with a lot of GT ties and since Bill is the editor of GT Patch we are sort of wondering why he is not doing and has not already written a story about this topic?

Let me emit a serious "WOW!" Sybil, you get on here and take GTWatchdawg out behind the woodshed for "posting a comment that has nothing to do with the topic." You further reprimand GTWD for not allowing Bill to have his few moments in the spotlight while everybody congratulates him on his new position and write, "Can’t you let the guy open his article and see the nice things people say about him or patch or at least comments welcoming him?" And then you proceed to trash the Bill and try to tell him and the Patch how to conduct their business. Seems like you already did that for them.
I said it before, I think, although I'm losing track of who is who in the "GT attack pack," but you are truly exhibiting symptoms of schizophrenia. Seek medical attention, please.
Very sorry, Bill, but apparently the honeymoon is over and you are now in the sights of the "GT attack pack." If you post anything contrary to the GT official line you will be savaged as plainly evidenced by one Sybil Evans.

Dr Paul, I do say Dr. not because I am calling you a name rather you have suggested medical procedures and medications and only Dr's do that. Now if you’re not a Dr. can you please stop trying to diagnose everyone in GT that doesn't agree with you as needing medical attention. (well in Schmidt's case GC). See Paul that is the classic sign of your mental instability, see I believed you when told us you’re a radar engineer, I didn’t know that degree allowed you to practice medicine, I thought it gave you the ability to collect unemployment not diagnose medical conditions.

Now Paul you seem to have taken me behind the wood chipper, telling me not to do exactly what you just did to me. Hmm can anyone define Hypocrite? Please no cheep jokes like what does it mean if Webster’s has a picture of Paul next to the word? Come on were all above that type of redundancy, besides Paul would just answer it with a comment saying something like Webster’s doesn’t have a picture of him.
Paul just to catch you up with the rest of us that were not homeschooled, here is the difference I asked Bill why Patch didn't do a story on that topic that is a very appropriate question to ask the editor of a news agency. Bill wrote an article asking people to inform him of stories not being covered, so I asked him why they didn’t do a story on that topic. GTWD on the other hand posted a story that was already written about, and had nothing to do with asking a question or welcoming him. Bill is a big boy I'm sure he doesn't need you to defend him, especially when there was nothing to defend. It was a question, not an unrelated topic, maybe you should learn the difference.

Paul,
GTWatchdawg did not ask a question he/she went way off topic posting his remarks and comments. It is obvious to all of us your don't have a problem with that just with me asking a question, Hmm see Bill it seems like Paul is doing an awful lot of defending for me just asking a question about Paul's master. I find it very ironic Paul took offense to my comment yet GtWatchdawg didn't. Bill where there is smoke there is fire. Isn't that the first rule of journalism? Hmm why is Paul being so defensive? Paul's rambling attack on me for asking a question of you that had nothing to do with him just further justifies my original question. Paul, If there is nothing wrong with what Schmidt did, why are you making such a rabid attack’s to defend him?

Disclaimer: I do not know who Schmidt is. If he(?) is someone I know than he(?) is using a false name (you should know a lot about that, Sybil).
Seriously, woman up, or should I say, man up? You take potshots at me and you indulge in personal attacks (if you need documentation of such I will provide it) and you hide behind a fake name. Do you really think that people reading here don't get it? You are a fake and you deal continually in posting mis-truths and you protect yourself by lying about who you are. We all get it except you.
BTW, do you read what you write because you contradict yourself within the same sentence. BTW, what medical condition describes that kind of action, Sybil?

Paul I see Schmidt must be to embarrassed to tell you his real name but you sit with him at council meetings your on video tape talking to him in council meetings, Go to the Twp website and watch the videos, Go to GTRMC website and watch the tapes. See Paul you can lie to some people that want to believe your lies but you have been on this site lying long enough.

Funny you claim you don't know Schmidt? Judas denied Christ too, how poetic you would deny Schmidt during two weeks before the crucifixion, see the pattern, of course you did, Judas then turned him in for a couple pieces of silver. Now I in no way relate Schmidt to Christ just you to Judas. So what did you get? Copper, Zinc, an iron pill? Come on what did you get for Schmidt? I'm just curious what your motivation was. Your Pathetic.

Paul, I hate to disagree with your disclaimer, but you do know John, you speak to him at council meetings, you go up before and after him to the mic to make your comments to Council, you talk to him after council. Now, If you want to disassociate yourself with him, well, I don't blame you, but please , don't shake your credibility and say you don't know him, that's just not true. You support the SJ Citizen's Political group , your right to belong or support any group you want. One of the leader's John. Please Paul, don't insult the intelligence of those who know you are a acquaintance and supporter of Mr. Schmidt. WOW, who needs a friend like that, when things get tough, disclaimer...
Yes Bill, Welcome to Gloucester Township, it is a Great Place to Live, work and Play and getting better every day regardless of the negativity from those who continue to live here and blog for two years about how awful it is. Best of Luck Bill.!! Your going to be a busy editor.
