Vehicle Purchases on Agenda for Monday's Council Meeting
Council will vote to purchase new vehicles and supplies for the township and move forward with advertisement of bids for other items.
Gloucester Township Council is expected to approve a number of resolutions at Monday night's meeting that will either permit the purchase of vehicles, supplies and services for the township or allow for the advertisement of bids for these items.
The items on the agenda for purchase through state contract include one E-350 van from Mall Chevrolet, a 2013 passenger van from Mall Chevrolet, two dump trucks with a plow and spreader from Flemington Ford and supplies for the town's energy savings initiative program from Fairlite Electric.
The township is permitted to purchase these items by state law. In New Jersey, municipalities may execute contract for the purchase of an item without prior advertisement when the purchase is pursuant to an existing state contract. According to the resolution, Council “has determined that it is in the best interest of the Township of Gloucester to award the pursuant purchase to the State Contract.”
Under the state contract, municipalities can make purchases generally at lower prices from pre-approved vendors.
Council will also vote on resolutions to advertise bids for other items that do not fall under the same jurisdiction as the items that can be purchased through state contracts.
The items expected to be approved for bid are one seven-yard dump truck and two brush packers. There is also a resolution on the agenda to advertise bidding for landscape maintenance at various Gloucester Township buildings.
All the items that on the agenda to be purchased or advertised for bid are accounted for in the township's 2013 budget.
