Kappa Delta Pi to Host Alex's Lemonade Stand at CCC
The education honor society will hosts its first stand on April 6 in the courtyard of Camden County College's Blackwood Campus.
While spring weather remains elusive, it always the right season for a cup of Alex’s Lemonade.
On Wednesday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the chapter of Kappa Delta Pi will host a lemonade stand to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALFS).
“Kappa Delta Pi does a lot of service activities. We heard about Alex’s Lemonade Stand and since we are future teachers, it made sense for us to raise money for a charity that focuses on children,” said Miceala Tortella, president of Kappa Delta Pi.
Tortella wants to raise $300 to support ALSF, a Pennsylvania-based organization that raises money to fund research for new treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Everyday, 36 children are diagnosed with some form of cancer, including pediatric brain tumors, leukemia and neuroblastoma.
ALFS emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, raising more than $35 million and funding more than 150 research projects.
If you cannot make the Camden County College stand on Wednesday, buy a cup of lemonade online on the stand’s fundraising page.
