Local Cub Scouts Pack Goes Above and Beyond

Pack No. 177 organized a second food drive after learning of a local food bank's depleted resources.

Gloucester Township Cub Scouts Pack No. 177 routinely participates in Boys Scouts of America's fall food drive.

This summer, though, some members of the group learned food supplies at the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Our Lady of Hope Parish had been depleted by high demand.

The Cub Scouts sprung to action, and, on Friday, Aug. 3, delivered roughly 100 canned goods and non-perishable food items they and their families had collected for the St. Vincent de Paul Society's food bank, Pack No. 177 committee chairman Kevin Little said.

"Every Cub Scout Pack 177 meeting begins with the members reciting the scout promise. The second line states that each scout is to do their duty to God and country," Little said. "To these first- through fifth-graders duty to country means more than participating in Gloucester Township’s Memorial Day ceremonies or attending the 9/11 memorial dedication at the Chews Landing Fire Department. Duty to country starts in their community."

Cub Scout Pack No. 177 operates out of Our Lady of Hope Parish.
