Pine Hill Teacher Indicted on 92 Counts of Sex Assault, Child Porn
Charles Reilly, 44, taught at Pine Hill Middle School and was a town councilman until he was charged in 2011.
Pine Hill Middle School teacher Charles Reilly was indicted on 92 counts of child abuse, including sexual assault and child pornography, authorities announced Wednesday.
A grand jury indicted—or formally charged—Reilly, 44, of East Pine Street in Pine Hill, on Jan. 23. The indictments were unsealed Wednesday.
The litany of counts against Reilly surrounds accusations that the art teacher and boys’ soccer coach allegedly victimized youth ages 12-16 during a five-year period.
Reilly was arrested in March 2011 and has been suspended with pay from his teaching position since then, according to Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk and Pine Hill Police Chief Chris Winters. Reilly also was a Pine Hill councilman at the time of his arrest.
Seventeen separate male students from Pine Hill Middle School presented evidence against Reilly, authorities say. One accused him of sexual touching in June 2007. Authorities alleged Reilly engaged in inappropriate sexual communications with other boys from 2006 until his arrest.
Reilly also reportedly engaged in sexual interactions via the Internet with an undercover officer posing as a student. Reilly asked the officer to delete any communications of a sexual nature, authorities said.
The indictments against Reilly are:
- One count of second-degree sexual assault
- 18 counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child
- 18 counts of second-degree official misconduct
- One count of second-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child
- Two counts of second-degree luring or enticing a child
- Three counts of attempted creation and distribution of child pornography (a second-degree endangering charge)
- One count of second-degree attempted official misconduct
- Five counts of hindering apprehension
- 42 counts of fourth-degree endangering the welfare of a child
The final 42 indictment counts stem from alleged child pornography. Authorities said the children pictured are not ones Reilly knew.
An indictment is a formal charge against a person, not a judgment of guilt.

Hey Patch, I understand how the law works. Hopefully we all know that the individual named is accused of allegedly committing said crimes...but you accompany the story with a picture with the word BUSTED! What's up with that? Already gone to judgment on this one, have we?

You're right, Paul, thanks (on the general idea, not that we at Patch have a position on the accused's guilt or innocence). It's from the website that hosts the mugshot, but on balance, many readers might not click on the picture and realize that. I'll edit it.

Do we really vet anybody here? Look at our recent history in this state...Senator Robert Torricelli, Governor Jim McGreevy, Governor Jon Corzine, and now Senator Bob Menendez.

I am wondering what the tax payers of Pine Hill think about their hard earned money going to paid leave for this horrible excuse of a human being. The schools are already short on money for programs to help children, so why are they spending on paid leave for this criminal?

They found a ton of child porn on his computer and 17 kids testify against him. Doesn't sound like a he said/she said case. I have no problem with his picture being shown.

Because he was found guilty yet. Innocent until proven guilty. All Americans deserve their due process. Yes, by all accounts he did what they say, but if that's true, the evidence will bear that out. Until then, he has only been charged with the crimes. There are too many innocent people in prison because of media bias, overzealous jurors, shabby police work and evidence tampering. We have to be sure before we take away another human's life.

That's true but when it comes to pedophiles, rapists, murderers, it's better to be safe then sorry. If the man is out on bail before the court hearing and he actually dd this, don't you want to know if you live next to him. Not to mention no one is throwing him in prison and throwing away the key just yet.

So, this criminal has been paid his full salary for almost two years because of a loop hole in the NJEA contract. We citizens need to write letter to the NJEA demanding that this be changed. Can you imagine all of the football cleats, band instruments, cheerleading pom poms and soccer balls that this could have paid for. Instead, it went to a man who abused the children. Maybe it should have been better spent on therapy for the victims.

I don't know why it takes this long to go before a judge. It's ridiculous and has to be fixed. It is better to be safe than sorry but not the way you said. The way our system works, we would rather let a criminal walk than convict an innocent man. Maybe he was on a monitoring device? People get falsely accused of things all the time and their lives are runied. This teacher's life is ruined whether he did it or not. If he's guilty I hope he never sees the light of day.

Are some people on this Rant really going to bat for a sexual pedator and complain that the Patch treated him unfairly? The article said this monster victimized children for 5 years. He was charged with 92 criminal counts. Do you guys know him? If so, keep him, and yourself, away from this area. This is the type of guy we should not stick up for. Save your liberal defending for someone who needs it.....unless this guy is a close buddy of yours....

Angie, Sean wrote a previous story on this. Long story short: until a teacher is convicted or indicted, it's suspension with pay. Here's the link: http://patch.com/A-y3YG
The board voted in October to take away their pay ASAP without further board action if and when they're indicted or convicted: http://patch.com/A-y7dp

She was a prostitute. That means it was consensual for sure & she wasn't abused. It was a woman. The Republicans are usually caught soliciting their own sex. Look at the guy sending suggestive emails to his male interns that they didn't want. He was a Republican too. I don't care what party that are. You brought up that he's a democrat. Like that matters? So I brought up that Republicans are in the news more often for their perverted antics.
At least Bubba Clinton was a stud in the Oval Office, not a pervert. There is a difference.
