These officers need training. This doesn't look good nationally for the township. A bunch of kids with billy sticks and guns acting like this is a game. People got wounded and died because the township dropped the ball again and hires their friends and family. We're the laughing stock of the state.

What a narrow-minded thing for Jim Jones to say! Look around Jim--God doesn't need your brand of religion posted on the wall or said in 'prayer for effect' to be evidently present. You think He wasn't there when those school teachers protected their kids with their own lives in Connecticutt!? I bet He's much more present than you give Him credit for!

Do you really believe disarming citizens will stop the scumbags from getting a gun?
NO!!!!!! it won't!
Do you know how many hoops the average law abiding citizen needs to jump through to even get a handgun in NJ?
Wake up moron.

Praying for these brave officers. Town council and the mayor need to cleanup this township. There are too many Section 8 apartment complexes that attract the dregs which affects Safety and overall well being. As a result, crime has increased here, businesses have closed or moved away ( just drive down Blackwood Clementon Rd. and see the many shuttered locations).,and their children drain our school system. GT is becoming the next Lindenwold

I agree with mr, we have way too many section 8 apts and homes for rent. But the taxes have gotten so high, you can only live here if you rent with section 8 or wealthy. Working blue collar is being forced out. Retirees cant wait to get out and township has turned to trash.

As a point of clarification: Mr. Jones was NOT a sworn corrections officer. He was a civilian communications operator for DOC. He did present a badge to the officers and claim to be a corrections officer, though, authorities said. We'll be adding details to this article shortly.

just the other day the Vice President of the NRA was saying that having good guys with guns around would be a good thing.
and less than a week later some guy just waltzes into a POLICE station and shoots up the place?
I hope the officers make a full recovery but I can't help thinking of how convenient of an event this is considering the present anti gun climate.
I am not a conspiracy theorist but I can't help thinking that there's more than meets the eye with all the shootings happening these past couple years and the pace of these shootings seem to be accelerating to the tune of the gun control advocatesand the shooters end up dead, ( I actually don't mind that the shooters ended up dead) but they sure do leave a whole lot of unanswered questions which answers will not be forthcoming as to why alegedly intelligent individuals like the shooter in Colorado and the Newtown, CT. shooter, both with some history of antisocial tendencies but also doing very well in academic pursuits, suddenly snap, buy up an arsenal and shoot up a school? why? at least the Colorado theater shooter is still alive and I'll be watching what develops with him during his trial.
this IS scary and even though I own guns (and do not EVER think of shooting ANY live being) I can understand how freaked out a lot of people are getting.

Amazing Michelle, 2 days later and you still failed to post the “several comments,” you claimed were posted prior to you inciting people to blame the police that some loony tune shot them. You can call your statement sarcasm all you want but as I stated your remarks brought out the crazies who just want to take pot shots at the mayor and this police department.

There was no need for your “sarcasm” which only incited the crazies. Prior to your ridiculous comments people on here were giving prayers for the officers now they are saying the police did this because Eddie Jones was black. You should be proud of yourself turning a positive comments section giving prayers to the victims into an embarrassing display of politics and racism.

As the wife of a retired police officer my prayers go out to these officers and hope a full a speedy recovery to each one. My only question when I first heard of the incident was, why did the police officer have a weapon still on her when the suspect was taken out of the handcuffs? Aren't police weapons removed BEFORE freeing a suspects hands? This seems to have been a breach of police safety protocol, or is that not the case in Gloucester Township?

The township needs more experienced officers and not just young kids that think they are invincible because of the arrogant Mayor and Chief of Police who hire them. They think they are above the law and above a bullet. It's sad what happened, but hopefully their arrogance and ignorance will be a lesson.

OK, now I'm just curious. This is the second time I've seen a commenter reference a talk show host making a joke or jokes about this incident. Can you cite the show and the specific comment(s) in which "we were made fun of last night on a late night talk show?" As I told another commenter who claimed Jay Leno made a joke about the incident last night—The Tonight Show has been in reruns all week, so that's not possible. What show was it?

Vicky

I saw something on tv about it. I caught the tail end and it referred to Gloucester Township in a joking way. I think it was Jon Steward or Bill Maher. It was quick. Not sure exactly who it was, it could have been Maddow, who knows.

Vicky you’re an embarrassment to the GOP!

Let’s see what is in common with the 3 commentators you claim you "May Have Seen" making jokes about this situation on TV.

1 John Steward , Male On Comedy Central Tapes had Black hair dark skin and has not taped a show since December 14, 2012 so we can eliminate him from your imagination.

2 Bill Maher, Male is on HBO Whitest skin and Hair I ever saw on anyone has not taped a new show since November 26, 2012

3 Rachel Maddow, Female light brown hard medium skin tone, political commentator on CNN not a news anchor last episode taped and aired on December 27, 2012, the day before this happened.

Next time you want to try and frame a democrat please take enough time to learn the difference between a man a woman and ghost before you make a comment and also at least do a little homework on when they actually aired shows.

Vicky that was a seriously lame attempt to blame democrats you are truly a very poor Republican activist and should be ashamed of yourself trying to spin this tragedy into a political event.

You should apologize to these police officers and their families for attempting to politicize this tragedy.

I for one do offer my condolences prayers and sympathies to the GT Police Family and the families of the officers that were severely injured in the line of duty.

D.H.: I have no doubt the incident was discussed on Fox News and probably CNN and MSNBC. Two different commenters have suggested late night talk show hosts joked about the incident. I find that hard to believe. One suggested it was Leno, but his show hasn't been new since Dec. 21 so we can rule him out. Someone suggests above it may have been Jon Stewart or Bill Maher (I think his HBO show is in the offseason) or Rachel Maddow. Anyone else see someone on TV joking about this incident?

It's in all the National newspapers and all over the news. People feel the township is living up to what New Jersey is all about Corrupt and Small Minded. Most people think it will get covered up and swept under the rug because this police force does as it pleases and there is no accountability for their wrongdoing. Maybe with all the national attention, something will get done. Next thing you know the Mayor will honor those dimwitted officers. Welcome to South Jersey

Hey Jake, two of those "dimwitted officers" are nothing short of heroes. Went into battle with an armed assailant, took multiple hits, never quit, and stopped the threat. Honoring those men is the least that could be done!

The shooter injured three officers before he was taken down.
It seems to me that there is a lot of violence relating to firearms lately. I wonder if this is just a coincidence. Strange to say the least. Whether or not you are against firearms, it seems that they are getting a lot of negative publicity these days.

He was brought back to police headquarters and when his handcuffs were removed for a brief period during processing. She has a gun and she gets honored for the mess. This is how dimwitted our leaders are. How about getting her trained first so we don't have another repeat.

First and foremost, my prayers go out to the injured officers and their families, however the scenerio went down! Two of them followed protocol and, as police do, put their lives on the line to protect the innocent, thank you and get well!!!
There should be height requirement, a weight requirement, and a mandatory work out regimen weekly that must be followed in order to maintain their badge. It is just a no brainer that a 6'+ man weighing over 200lbs., will be able to subdue a small framed woman, with very little upper body strength coming in at 5' 100lbs. Same would be true if it were a small man, but he still would be built differently. I am very for women's rights, I am very FOR carrying a weapon, but, obviously a mistake was malde there, that a weapon was in an area it should not have been. I also believe in giving everyone the freedom to make mistakes. In the world of police work, there is an almost "zero tolerance" for mistakes, as a man's life was lost and three police officer's injured.
This is just my opinion. I will let this site know if I am being pulled over by every female police officer, lol. Please, do not turn this into part of the 2nd Amendment conversations, as it has NOTHING to do with that AT ALL!
G-D BLESS ALL of our uniformed people and protect them!!! Thank you for your service and choice to keep my family and I safe!!!
