Sandy Shelter at Camden County College Closes

The temporary shelter houses eight people during the storm.

The temporary shelter at Camden County College’s Blackwood campus has closed, county officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

Eight individuals took refuge in the college gymnasium during Hurricane Sandy. They have since found alternate accommodations, according to Camden County.

“I would like to thank the Camden County Office of Emergency Management, the Red Cross, Kennedy University Hospital, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Community Animal Response Team (CART) volunteers,” Freeholder Ian Leonard said. “This effort really shows how effective and professional our emergency response efforts can be and are when we are faced with a significant storm event.”

Camden County continues to operate under a state of local emergency. The Camden County Emergency Operating Center is still directing the county’s emergency response and coordinating damage assessment for the region.
