Township Police Recover 2nd Van Reported Stolen from Camden

This recovery and suspect arrest came less than 24 hours after two officers were injured tracking down another alleged van thief.

Police arrested a Camden man accused of stealing a van out of his hometown without incident on Route 42 late Saturday, less than 24 hours after two officers sustained injuries arresting another alleged van thief.

Gloucester Township Police Ptl. Jason Sailer observed a "suspicious" white Ford Econoline van while he was monitoring traffic on Sicklerville Road at about 11:14 p.m. Saturday, according to Lt. Jason Gittens.

A tag check confirmed that the van had been reported stolen out of Camden on Wednesday.

Police stopped the van near exit 9B on the northbound side of Route 42.

Lasaun Gibson, 37, of the 1500 block of 8th Street, Camden, was arrested without incident, police said. He was charged with receiving stolen property, and was lodged in Camden County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Police shut down Route 42's northbound lanes for a brief period while conducting the motor vehicle stop.

Police have not identified the officers who were injured earlier Saturday, including one whom police initially indicated possibly sustained a broken knee during a struggle with the suspect.
