Township Tax Levy Stays Same in Proposed '13 Budget
Gloucester Township Mayor David Mayer introduces the 2013 municipal budget during Monday's Council meeting.
Residents would receive roughly the same municipal tax bills this year as they did last year under the proposed 2013 township budget.
The township's 2013 budget, as introduced by Mayor David Mayer during Monday night's Township Council meeting, calls for the same exact tax levy as the 2012 spending plan's.
"I'm very proud to say that for four years in a row, we are introducing a budget that holds the line on taxes," Mayer said. "We've worked hard over these last three-and-a-half years to straighten out our township's finances, to upgrade our bond rating to an A+."
The $53,489,254 spending plan is to be supported by a $37,346,064 local tax levy—the same tax revenue called for to support $51,616,205 in appropriations for 2012—Business Administrator Tom Cardis said.
In fact, as Mayer pointed out, the township's tax levy has been the same going back to the fiscal year 2010 budget.
A public hearing on the 2013 budget has been scheduled for Monday, March 25.
An exact tax rate in support of the 2013 township budget has not yet been calculated.
Cardis noted the rate, which would impact municipal tax bills, could go up or down a bit based on whether there was an increase or decrease in the municipal ratable base. He stressed any change would "not be significant" either way.
The 2012 municipal budget's tax rate came in at about 82.4¢ per $100 of assessed property value, for an annual tax bill of about $1,648 for a home assessed at $200,000.
The township's 2012 budget was not adopted by Council until May.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is to deliver his state budget address Tuesday afternoon. That address will likely provide a clearer picture on how much money municipalities and school districts can expect from Trenton.
Last year, Gloucester Township received $5,106,459 from the state—the same amount it received in support of its 2011 budget.

Darren's right folks, look around with your own two eyes, Darren has admitted to STALKING people, for what reason? Political? Read his post on new councilwoman sworn in. He said he thought he was STALKING Mrs. Green at ShopRite. This just proves that the RADICAL element that interferes with the progress of Township Council conducting business is going is now taking drastic measures and are stalking residents. This is beyond radical, this is illegal.
Four years with out a tax increase, awesome. Look around at other towns that already have high taxes and are still getting increases. We should be grateful to live in a Township where there's been no increase for four years. Then you have the Political radical whiners , who believe me, if we did get a increase, would be screaming about how unhappy they are, how they think everything about this Township is wrong and how horrible it is to live here, but yet, they still stay and they still make public accusations at Council that are baseless and slanderous because it's free air time to do their politicking on the live broadcasts of Council Meetings. They get so excited to walk to the mic and hear themselves talk and yell and scream at Council, Mayor, and Police Dept. That's what they call progress, that's what I call-----, they bring people from other towns to come in and do their dirty work. Yet in spite of them, Mayor, Council, Police Admin. still move forward to continue to make G.T. A Greater Place to Live each year!!!

Okay. Four years, no increase. That's all well and good.
Taxes were embarrassingly high four years ago..they are still now embarrassingly high...but no increase, very good.
I say that now we take the next step. We should actually LOWER taxes. I say that for the next two years, we, as a township government, dial it back to only the bare fundamentals. For two years, no military equipment purchases, no new/refurbished parks, no new projects. For two years, just the basics - police, courts, trash, snow, repair some roads, maintain parks - just the basics.
Do this with the goal of LOWERING taxes each of the next two years.

Darren,
The Mayor has already taken measures to help businesses in GT. He has installed the red light cameras.
Remember his statement a year ago?
Our Mayor reasoned: "We had to try to slow traffic down. And we had to do that for a number of reasons," Mayer said. "One is safety. The other is economic development. Traffic just flowed too quickly through there. As you can see, that corridor is not thriving." The theory behind that line of thinking is that alert motorists, concerned about getting a ticket for blowing a red light, will drive at lower speeds and take notice of the businesses around them.
So there. What else do you want him to do?

Big daddy you can cross post in as many patch articles you choose but your lies are still lies. there has been no budgets presented or past by this mayor that rose taxes. 3 previous budgets had 0 increases you do know what 0 means right? The current budget is also a 0 increase as it was presented to council but not approved by council yet.
You previously lied to us in another article, and said the mayors first budget had a tax increase and I pointed out to you that all the mayors budgets are signed by him and made as public record on the Twp website I will post the link below and again say to you show me which budget had an increase because all 4 he presented provided 0 tax increases:
http://www.glotwp.com/Downloads/index.html
On the contrary all 4 budgets presented to council by the previous Republican Mayor Cindy Rau-Hatton had increases the highest being 24% the lowest being 14%.
The links and budgets are there prove me wrong. Big Daddy 1 Liar, In fact I will ask anyone who reads this to prove me wrong. Cindy Rau-Hatton former Republican mayor they were your budgets Shelly Lovett, Crystal Evans you both voted to pass those extreme tax hiking budgets, Tom Crone you are the current executive director of the republican Party can any of you defend Cindy Hatton and prove me wrong?

Big Daddy the only bad liar is the tempting snake in the apple tree, you are nothing better then the devils instrument. Like the Devil you may have poisoned the weak but not everyone is weak. Big Daddy1 your memory is as bad as your lie. The mayor did not take office until Jan 2010 the budget was past for the 2010 year in July 2009. You had already paid 2 quarters of your taxes into that 2010 budget before the current mayor took office. Again educate yourself and you would not have to resort to lying to people. payments of the 2010 budget are as follows. Aug 1 2009 1st payment due, Current mayor did not even get elected yet at that point. payment on the 2010 Budget due November 1 2009, the election still was not even held at that point Mayor Rau Hatton was still the mayor. Jan 2010 Mayor Mayer took office and inherited the budget of former mayor Republican Cindy Rau-Hatton Queen of the tax hike. on to the 3rd payment Feb 1 2010 was due, under state law the last two quarters are what are called makeup quarters from the shortfalls of the previous year. The current mayor has NO ABILITY to change the current budget but if they find shortfalls they can choose to adjust the budget accordingly. Therefore again the Feb and May payments which did not change from the proposed payment schedule were still presented and owned by the outgoing Mayor Republican Cindy Rau-Hatton. AS I SAID BEFOR BIG DADDY1, I DO NOT LIE, IF YOU HAVE PROOF TO THE CONTRARY SHARE IT WITH US. I'M SURE YOU WOULD LOVE TO PROVE ME WRONG. TRY IT, THE REASON YOU WON'T IS BECAUSE ANYTHING YOU DO ONLY PROVES I AM RIGHT.

This was gloucester townships problem for the next 9 years and she kept raising taxes every year and the town went to hell in a hand basket
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP — Township Council members are at odds over whether a proposed 9.3 percent municipal tax increase can be avoided.
The budget proposed by Mayor Sandra Love at Monday night's council meeting would increase the local tax rate from 54.7 cents to 59.8 cents per $100 of assessed property value. The owner of a home assessed at the township average of $105,000 would pay $53.55 more per year. It would be the township's first property tax increase in four years.

Taxes are high across the board in New Jersey. Honestly, ask around, I don't know anyone in neighboring towns who has had no increase for 3 straight years.
My issue is not the taxes. I don't mind paying higher taxes if the services are there.
Now, with a balanced budget an zero tax increase I think it is time to focus on improving services across the board and make sure everything is running as well as it possibly can be.
