What Would You Improve in Gloucester Twp. in 2013?

If you could make a New Year's resolution for Gloucester Township, what would it be?

More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.

As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Gloucester Township to make it an even better place to live?

Would you focus on business development? Do you want any changes to township parks? New rec programs for kids? Something else?

Tell us in the comment section below what's on your Gloucester Township wish list for 2013.

I would improve the school system. Uniforms, stronger evaluations and make it easier to get rid of ineffective teachers. Lord knows we have too many who do nothing and get earn raises every year.

You should try being one. I was a bus driver for 25 years, and those teachers have a thankless job.

How about tearing down the overaboudance apartments. Doing so would get rid
of the so called rift-raft that seems to like to walk up and down Blackwood Clementon road with their basketballs in one hand and Popeyes chicken in the other hand.

"Glooucester Township"? Check your own spelling, LM. Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.

Contrary to your belief, not everyone who lives in apartments are "rift raft". There are plenty of people who reside in apartment complexes that are hard-working, fully functioning, productive members of society that are just trying to live and raise their families like everyone else.
Not everyone can afford to own their own home.

Chews Landing Road, between Somerdale and Shoprite, should be reduced to 25 mph, not 40. The road is cluttered with residences, and three parks line the road. All surrounding towns have roads that are much more commercial and less traveled, yet they are 25 mph. I am afraid some kid will run out into the road, either from one of the homes that line the road or more likely the parks, and will get killed by a car. Chews Landing Road should not be 40 mph!!!!

I think the speed should remain at 40mph. Send the kids to the park with their parents and then they wont be running across the street. I have lived on Chews Landing road for about 30 years and there has never been a problem.

Make the government as efficient as possible - read lower taxes - and rearrange schedules so the offices are open on Saturday. We went to a 4 day week years ago but the hours never provided for the working tax payers to be able to get to the offices when they were open. Need late evening hours or Saturday hours.

Fix New Brooklyn-Erial Rd between Garwood and College drive, it was recently tore up for some kind of underground work, now I understand it is not due to be repaved for another year. It is now a really bad road. Please fix it ASAP.

Improve the commercial dwellings along Blackwood Clementon Rd, and rid our township of the stereotypical ignorant people who think basketball players that reside in apartments are rif raf.

I'd love to see Sam Siler Park allow rollerskating and dogs. I notice people skating and walking dogs from time to time anyway, and nobody really cares. This way, these people won't be scofflaws.

Stop the addition of any more bill boards along Route 42, it is beginning to look like Pottersville from "A Wonderful Life" or the entrance way to AC. It diminishes the township to have all of those billboards and give a poor impression.

Lower taxes and create more business revenue. Give businesses tax cuts so they want to come into our township.

Clean up Blackwood-Clementon road strip mall where the Asian buffet has opened across from Dennys. There should be ordinances to remove those ugly wooden signs! The shopping center went from okay to ghetto in a matter of weeks. And as for Denny, the color change is unsightly!

Ban Pep Boys from building at the corner of Lt. Gloucester & Blackwood-Clementon Rd. There are enough auto shops within a mile of that location. The building has really changed the scape of the intersection for the worst. It is one huge, mix-matched brick facade, hideous-looking building. It does not blend well with the other establishments. It has really changed the intersection for the worst.

Joyce, you are not going to see them take care of the southern part of town. Remember, their friends do auto body work and front end work. Also, the MUA sewer pipes are for Winslow twp. Ask Mayor Mayer about any repaving, you might just be surprised, but not in a good way.

Oh and AMEN to your last comment Schu

I'd love to see left hand turn signals on EVERY traffic light in the township in all four directions! It's getting harder and harder to make a left turn at most intersections and if you don't turn on the yellow or the red, then you aren't making a left at all. (especially at College Drive and Cheeseman Road) Also, make ALL the yellow lights LONGER on Blackwood Clementon Road..I swear they are nothing but revenue traps.

I believe in recycling but there should be a ban on keeping the pink cans on front porch or in front of house. The green mildew on houses doesn't help either. Talk about looking like the ghetto.

The cans are actually black. That being said, perhaps it's not an option for some people who don't have a garage or don't have room inside their garage to put the cans elsewhere? The front porch is a rather odd location- I have not seen that yet. But in front of the garage or off to the side of the house, doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Not everyone has the space to put them elsewhere.

Sorry Lids are pink. If people have a back yard that's where recycling and trash cans should be. How would you like to pay $8500 in taxes and come out your front door and see recycling can on porch and trash can in front of garage. You seem to make excuses for people rather than try to come up with solutions to make G/T a better place to live.

I am not trying to make "excuses" for anyone. The fact is that some people may not have the room to put them anywhere else. There are some very tiny properties with limited space. Certainly no disrespect intended. Like I said, I have not seen a recycling can on a front porch yet, but in front of the garage doesn't bother me personally. That is all I said.
They probably have the same sentiment as you (Jo-Ann) with regard to taxes. They figure if they're paying $8500 in taxes, they are going to put their can wherever they want. If it is that big of an issue for that many people perhaps you should get together and bring it up at the next council meeting. Maybe they can cite homeowners who don't properly conceal their cans.
At the moment ours is in the garage, but I have been known to leave it in front of the garage on occasion. I've never had anyone complain to my face.
If I were to try to come up with solutions to make the township a better place, which I regularly do by the way, making people put their recycling cans out of sight would be pretty far down on my list.
