Gloucester Township High School Rankings from 2012
Timber Creek is rated at 246 out of 328 high schools in NJ (with Lindenwold at 196). Is it really worth the $$ to live in GT when the schools are lagging? What else is there? The elementary schools are great but this is a great disappointment.

Terri, I can't open your link. I have not reviewed the information you provided but I can say my experience. I attended the Black History Month Awards ceremony with the Mayor and Council. I can tell you that school has one heck of a respected vice prinicple and at least the students that received the awards that night seemed to me to be extremely well rounded, not just smart but brilliant young individuals with great futures ahead of them. Ditto of course of the students from Highland and Triton but they are not mentioned in the blog. That school must be doing something right!! Those young people were outstanding. Don't fret. As for $$? That's always an issue with an overblouted system, too many districts in this state, too many hands in the pot. The $$ does not really get to the schools let alone the teachers or the students.

The numbers say it all. Thanks for publishing the info...it was starting to feel lonely out here. Is it possible with the new math being taught that our administrators thought a higher number was better than a lower number? What else would explain it?

Does anyone have any comments on GT High Schools ? Are they really at the bottom of the barrell in camden county [and New Jersey] ? Does anyone have children in GT that got accepted into reputable colleges for academics or positive experiences to share ?

Plenty of our children have been accepted and go to high profile colleges. the reason for low rankings which some people don't like to talk about is because of the special needs programs. The way the state gives out the testing is all students test score count. obviously many of the special needs students can not even hold pencils to answer the testing and yes we do have a high number of them because many of our surrounding schools do not have programs and they pay for and send them here but they count against our scores as well. The reason you hear nothing about this is because it does not help the agenda of trashing the mayor council and school boards here. If you ever read the comments of the posters most of them complain about school scores but do not have children in the schools so they really are not a barometer of how the schools actually perform because they just don't know. Some do attend school board meeting but mostly for a political agenda of taking pop shots at the attire of school board members. One person actually complained that a school board member was wearing a skirt and if he looked on the right angle he could see up her thigh...yep good old GT residents never let the program get in the way of taking a pop shot at the Mayor. Still not sure how a members skirt was the mayors fault but hey how can anyone argue with that logic he displayed with that comment right?

Always back to the Mayor, huh, Shill-bilith? You're the only one around here that seems to have a fascination with him.
Anyway, Terri, I don't think the problem is with the bright kids, i.e., the ones who end up going on the the better four year colleges. In fact, it's hard to keep such a kid down and they will learn anywhere, with or without all the 'fantastic' teachers in the BHP Regional School District. The problem is the other kids who need more help and don't get it. Here's an example...
Those who maintain a B average through high school qualify for a free ride at Camden County College. A friend of one of my children graduated from Triton with a B average but failed the college placement tests (math and English) for CCC twice. She had no other option, if she wanted to take advantage of her scholarship, but to take remedial math and English at CCC on her dime.
My niece just entered a program at Gloucester County College and was told that 75% of the kids coming there had to take remedial courses before pursuing college level classes. So, what's wrong with this picture?
As for the Mayor...I'm not sure where, of if, he fits into this picture; maybe Shill-bilith can enlighten us.

WRONG again , I have kids in the school and I'm FED up with the way the school are falling apart and the way the TEACHER are upset . Now you can preach all you LIKE I stated many times before.....POOR leadership around the board in GT and getting worst . Maybe instead of taking years OFF AND THEN IN AN election you are going to act like your doing something . Please all you are doing is trying to keep Dave collect his 52,000 A YEAR part time Job. GMAB Fake one ..........WE SO NEED change in this Township and Not the GTGOP or the Dems have an answers to FIXing the problems .... Got me thinking are they working together real hard not to solve the PROBLEM this Township is facing ....Get a grip Fake one DAVE and his team Stink .........Just care , I do

Much of what I've seen in this school is BS, less learning and more fooling around. A total waste of our money. Someone needs to crack the whip! That doesn't mean teaching over the kids heads then failing them when they don't get it. It means actually teaching them until they get it, they would be better off.
And as usual, the fox is watching the hen house.

the whole picture needs to be looked at, all the numbers were down in the school ranking from every "good" district. I blame parents and students not caring anymore like it was in the past. Times have changed and how many people really flunk anymore???? everyone passes, everyone gets an award, everyone get a medal so no one feels bad we created this mess with babying everyone

My niece and nephew tells me most of the students in their classes are sleeping, others are playing on their smart phones and a few students are listening, working and learning. No surprises our high schools are at the bottom.

Well given those statistics its hardly just a GT problem. Looks like plenty of school besides ours our down in the numbers. So, what is the solution?
Parental involvement might be a good start. Stop handing everything to your kids on a silver platter and make them work a little. My son is in grade school and every one of his friends have cell phones. WHY does a 3rd grader need a cel phone?
How about holding your kids accountable for their actions? How about making them follow rules and regulations?
That's a START. AS far as what happens with the teachers and administrators, well that is a bit beyond my expertise. I wish I had the answer.
