Ann Mullen Boys Basketball Team Wins Garden State Championship

The Ann Mullen Middle School Boys Basketball Team won the Garden State Middle School Championship on March 6th with a thrilling 53-43 victory over Asbury Park.  The team also posted an impressive 60-54 win over a strong Neptune squad in the semi-finals Tuesday.  The purpose of this tournament is to find the best middle school team in the state of New Jersey.  The tournament was sponsored and played at the Hoop Group in Neptune, New Jersey with 12 top qualifying teams from around the state.  While other teams entered impressive squads with some physically gifted players, the Ann Mullen team demonstrated its depth and skill as a team in bringing home the championship.  Maurice Murray was named tournament Most Valuable Player.  The rest of the starting line-up included Dylan Elliott, Ricky Martin, Devon Melton, and Isaiah Sanders.  Each demonstrated moments of leadership in helping the team to the Olympic Conference and Garden State Championships.  The coaching staff of D’Andre Laster and Pat Keane led the boys with contributions from other tournament team members Stephen Holman, Marcellus Ross, Tyler Scott, and Derryk Sellers.
