Camden County College 9/11 Remembrance Event Set for Sept. 19

The Camden County College Police Academy will commemorate the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States when a South Tower survivor, three first-responders involved in post-attack operations and a retired police officer dedicated to preserving 9/11 artifacts will address the current recruit class and Academy personnel.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 19. It will take place at the Camden County College Regional Emergency Training Center, which is located at 420 Woodbury-Turnersville Road in Blackwood, Gloucester Township.

Speaking will be:

-- David Piereth of Medford Lakes, a civilian who was fleeing the 74th floor of the South Tower as the second airliner struck it.

-- Officer Jason Deroian and Officer William Webb of the Medford Township Police Department, who assisted the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department on site.

-- Cherry Hill Fire Department Battalion Chief Montrell Haldeman, who served as a member of New Jersey Task Force One Urban Search and Rescue.

-- Retired Brooklawn policeman Steve Saymon, who has been instrumental in the placement of World Trade Center artifacts for memorial sites in South Jersey.
