CCCHC at CCC Showing Civil Rights Films in Camden, Blackwood Venues

Four powerful documentaries about various aspects of the civil rights struggle will be screened to encourage public conversations about the changing meanings of freedom and equality in America as the Camden County Cultural and Heritage Commission at Camden County College presents the Created Equal Film Series. The series is part of the Bridging Cultures initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities and was produced in partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

Six screenings are coming up: one in December and five in February, which is Black History Month. The films are “The Loving Story” (2011, 77 minutes); “Slavery by Another Name” (2012, 90 minutes); “The Abolitionists” (2013, 180 minutes); and “Freedom Riders” (2011, 120 minutes).

Scheduled are:

● “The Loving Story,” 2 p.m. Dec. 14, South Camden Theatre, 400 Jasper St., Camden.

● “Slavery by Another Name,” 7 p.m. Feb. 7, Camden County Historical Society, 1900 Park Blvd., Camden.

● “The Abolitionists,” 2 p.m. Feb. 12, Camden Conference Center, Camden Technology Center, Camden City Campus, Camden County College, 601 Cooper St., Camden.

● “Freedom Riders,” 6 p.m. Feb. 12, Camden Conference Center, Camden Technology Center, Camden City Campus, Camden County College, 601 Cooper St., Camden.

● “The Loving Story,” 2 p.m. Feb. 20, auditorium, Danch CIM Center, Blackwood Campus, Camden County College, College Drive and Peter Cheeseman Road, Gloucester Township.

● “Slavery by Another Name,” 6 p.m., Feb. 20, auditorium, Danch CIM Center, Blackwood Campus, Camden County College, College Drive and Peter Cheeseman Road, Gloucester Township.

Each of the screenings will feature a moderated discussion. All of the events are free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
