Hot Air Balloon Lands in Tree in Erial

A hot air balloon made an 'unscheduled landing,' as police put it, in a Del Sordo Lane tree Thursday evening in Gloucester Township.

Del Sordo Lane residents didn’t have to look to the sky to see a hot air balloon Thursday night—one was caught right in a tree.

A hot air balloon snared in a tree around 7:20 p.m., trapping the pilot and two juveniles 50 feet in the air. All three remained stowed safely in the basket.

With the help of emergency crews, the pilot safely got the balloon and its passengers back on solid ground. No one was hurt, Gloucester Township Police report.

“The pilot reported her landing was hampered by a thermo draft, which resulted in the balloon being pushed into the tree,” police report.

Residents on the ground snapped dramatic photos of the large balloon hovering over Del Sordo Lane. With the passengers rescued, crews deflated the balloon.
