Off-track betting in Gloucester Township should be a reality by the end of the month, nj.com reports.

Favorites will likely open by the end of May, with a ribbon cutting ceremony soon after, Mayor David Mayer told nj.com this week.

Patrons will be able to watch races from 25 different tracks on big screen TVs at the bar and grill slated to open on Blackwood Clementon Road where the Stone Grill once stood, according to the report. It will be open 12 hours a day, seven days a week.

It gained approval from the state racing commission in October, according to the report.

I see your point, Philajersey, but I'm not sure you are seeing the whole picture. Given that this type of establishment is not a full fledged gambling site and actually will include a, hopefully, upscale eating establishment, it's not necessarily a bad idea. Where I think this model will go bad is based on the area surrounding the site. As "Sick of GTBS" points out, we have a prostitution problem in the area and that is now being enhanced by a possible uptick in drug traffic - witness the recent heroin bust in the K-mart parking lot. Added to all this are the frequent holdups at area establishments and we have a criminal 'trifecta' working for us. How this will improve the area is questionable. I'm not really sure what kind of clientele and from what area this will draw. Does anybody think this will draw from the city? Maybe Camden but not Philadelphia - there are already enough gambling sites on the Philly side of the river. This should prove an interesting experiment.

You know they had an actual race track in Cherry Hill for decades. Never heard any complaints except for traffic. If you don't like it, don't go.

Way to go, Big Daddy 1. So, a restaurant-bar with the ability to bet on baseball games is the same as going to the Citizens Bank Park to watch a baseball game. If you want to go to Favorites, by all means, go, but False Analogies such as you presented convince no one.

Off track betting is HORSES. They don't have horses at baseball games. And they don't have baseball games at racetracks. So get in the game (or out of it).

If attracting undesirables wasn't necessarily a problem at a real race track, I don't see why they would all want to come here for off track betting.
