Road Conditions May Be Dangerous Following Unexpected Storm

There are several delays near area bridges and NJ Transit lines are experiencing delays of at least 20 minutes.

The winter storm that dumped several inches of snow throughout the region has passed, but drivers should expect to experience the aftermath throughout the day.

The Winter Weather Advisory expired earlier today, but as the snow melts, officials expect flooding conditions on roadways throughout the region.

The Gloucester Township Police Department issued an advisory Monday morning warning that although main roads are clear, secondary roads remain covered in “several inches of slushy snow” and should be considered dangerous to travel on.

However, all roads are currently open.

Similar warnings should be in effect throughout the region, where between three and nine inches of snow accumulated during Sunday’s storm.

Conditions may be particularly dangerous in areas of Burlington County that saw between 2.5 and 9.5 inches of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service.

Roads in Camden County, which saw between 3.5 and 8.5 inches of snow, may also be impacted, as could roads in Gloucester County, where between 5.5 and 9 inches of snow fell.

Conditions may be slippery, as the forecast called for a trace of ice, and temperatures dropped into the 30s on Sunday night.

The State Department of Transportation is currently treating roadways, and there are speed restrictions in place for the Walt Whitman, Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross bridges, according 511nj.org. Routes 70, 73, 30, 38, and I-295, I-76 and I-676 are also experiencing heavy volumes of traffic.

Mutiple NJ Transit lines are also experiencing delays of at least 20 minutes, according to njtransit.com.

However, there are no weather advisories currently in place for southern New Jersey, but another quick moving system is expected to enter the area on Tuesday.
