Dollar Treats and Robot Manhattan

GT Patch has picked fun weekend events for those close to home and those bound for the Shore.

It's the weekend and it's time to kick back! Enjoy a Philly stroll down Baltimore Avenue, check out the Caribbean Festival at Wiggins Park or visit the Philadelphia Zoo for an ArtWell celebration. If staying indoors to keep cool is what you're after, watch Robot Manhattan perform before the Philadelphia Soul game or follow Harry Potter adventures at the library.

There are so many things to do this weekend—Gloucester Township Patch has picked the best of the best for local and Shore fun.

Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll

  • Where/When: Baltimore Avenue (from 42nd to 50th streets), Philadelphia; today, 5:30-8:30p.m.
  • What’s Going On: This event is so much better than visiting your local dollar store! Stroll the city streets and for just one dollar per item you can purchase beer, ice cream, espresso, beer, fresh focaccia, wraps, brownies, beer and more. Did we mention beer? On top of the frugal treats, there is live music at this event and a farmers market at 43rd and Baltimore.
  • Pricing: Free to attend, most items $1

Robot Manhattan, Philadelphia Soul vs. Cleveland Gladiators

  • Where/When: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St., Philadelphia; Friday, 8 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: This Friday night is Military Appreciation Night at the Philadelphia Soul Arena Football League game at Wells Fargo Center. Set to perform before the game is local ska/rock band Robot Manhattan. This group of seven talented musicians will have you cheering before the game even starts. Make sure to check out their performance and stay to watch some football.
  • Pricing: $13 to $200 per ticket, plus any applicable fees

 

Harry Potter Movie Marathon (Day 1)

  • Where/When: , 15 S. Black Horse Pike, Blackwood; Saturday, 11 a.m.
  • What’s Going On:Let's not forget that the Harry Potter movies are based on popular books! What better place to gear up for the newest Harry Potter movie than by heading to the library? Join in on the fun and watch the series from the beginning. Per the library's website, they will start with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at 11 a.m., then break for lunch. After lunch, watch Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets at 2 p.m. Both movies are rated PG. The library asks that you register each family member separately. Day 2 of the marathon will take place on Monday night, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and featuring Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

11th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Carnival

  • Where/When: Wiggins Waterfront Park, 100 Mickle Blvd., Camden; Saturday, noon-8 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: Enjoy the 11th annual South Jersey Caribbean Carnival. This event promises to bring you the crafts, sounds, and flavors of the region's Caribbean community. There will even be a chance to limbo and watch a fire-eater!
  • Pricing: Free

 

Live Jazz Buffet

  • Where/When: Winslow Family Diner, 491 Williamstown Rd., Sicklerville; Saturday, 3-6 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: If you want to enjoy fresh food and live music, visit the Winslow Family Diner this Saturday. Listen to the Paul Jost Quartet while you feast on the diner's dinner buffet. They will offer three meal options, two vegetable choices, salad, and a variety of cakes and cookies, as well as beverages.
  • Pricing: $25 

 

ArtWell 10th Anniversary Celebration 

  • Where/When: Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 West Girard Ave., Philadelphia; Sunday, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: This weekend, a Sunday trip to the zoo means animals and art. Bring the kids out for free art projects as non-profit organization ArtWell celebrates its 10th anniversary. Children will be guided by artists in activities like writing poetry and making masks. Face painting will also be offered.
  • Pricing: Free with zoo admission—adults, $18, children 2 to 11 years old, $15, and children under 2, free

 

SHORE

Paisley Pickles

  • Where/When:  Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace & Boardwalk, Ocean City; Friday, 7-8:30 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: This family-friendly event will have everyone in good spirits. Listen to live music and play games. Dance if you want to and embrace the entertainment of The Paisley Pickles Their sound varies from punk to rock-and-roll to jazz.
  • Pricing: $7 per person

 

New Jersey State Barbecue Championship and Anglesea Blues Festival

  • Where/When: 201 New Jersey Ave., North Wildwood; Friday, 4-11 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m., Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 
  • What’s Going On: This event makes me wish today were Friday. It sounds delicious! The website boasts "You'll find barbecue so good you'll cry, offered by championship vendors." Doesn't that sound amazing?! In addition to tons of food, this event will feature cooking demonstrations and live blues concerts. Attend this event and help a great cause because the New Jersey State Barbecue Championship benefits the Anglesea Volunteer Fire Co.
  • Pricing: Free to attend, food costs vary

 

Sheryl Crow

  • Where/When: Borgata Hotel & Casino, 1 Borgata Way, Atlantic City; Friday, 8 p.m.  
  • What’s Going On: Sheryl Crow is a Grammy Award-winning singer that got her start as a back-up singer for Michael Jackson. This talented female country/pop/rock singer rose to huge fame with her hits "All I Wanna Do" and "Soak Up the Sun," as well as "Picture" with Kid Rock. Come out to the Borgata this weekend because she's only there for one night!
  • Pricing: $66, $76 and $86, plus any applicable fees

 

Johnny Mathis

  • Where/When: Borgata Hotel & Casino, 1 Borgata Way, Atlantic City; Sunday, 8 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: Johnny Mathis is a living legend. His first album was released in 1956 and his most recent in 2010. He is one of the few artists who have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and he has sold 350 million records worldwide. This artist is best known for American standards and the hits "Begin the Beguine", "One Day In Your Life" and "It's Not For Me To Say."
  • Pricing: $65, $75 and $85, plus any applicable fees
