Former 'American Idol' Star Jermaine Jones Appears in Court

The Pine Hill resident was in Gloucester Township Municipal Court on Tuesday afternoon to answer to multiple charges.

Singer Jermaine Jones' stage on Tuesday afternoon wasn't before a crowd of screaming fans.

Instead, it was a stuffy courtroom, where no one seemed to recognize the 25-year-old former American Idol semifinalist.

Jones, accompanied by his attorney, was in court on multiple charges, including contempt of court for failure to appear for previous hearings. He showed up about 90 minutes late for Tuesday's hearing.

There was no resolution to the charges Tuesday. Gloucester Township Municipal Court Judge Nicholas Trabosh said all the charges would be handled together within the next 30 days. The judge did not set a date for Jones' next hearing.

Jones, a Pine Hill resident, was from the 11th season of American Idol in March, after the show's producers learned of his past brushes with the law, and that there were active warrants for his arrest.

Gloucester Township police said Jones was arrested twice in the township in 2011.

Jones gave a fake name to officers investigating a disturbance call at on the Black Horse Pike in March 2011, police said.

The singer again gave authorities a fake name when a car in which he was a passenger was pulled over on Hickstown Road in November 2011, according to police.

After Tuesday's hearing, Jones' attorney, Terrell A. Ratliff of Camden, said he is working to get the charges against his client resolved as quickly as possible.

Jones was upbeat, saying he's working on new music and that he hopes to release a CD soon.

He said he didn't want to discuss his American Idol debacle, and instead wanted to focus on the future.

"There's a lot of great things going on," he said of his career.

Jones is scheduled to perform at Warmdaddy's in Philadelphia on Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23.
