Get Out: 'Into the Woods,' Irish Fun & More

Enjoy a school musical, a St. Patrick's Day party, comedy in Philly and more this weekend.

Get an early start on your weekend. It's St. Patrick's Day and the luck of the Irish (and Patch) has given you fun things to do, starting as early as noon today.

A VFW in Berlin wants you to celebrate the holiday with them and at the same time help contribute to saving its building. And Highland Regional High School's spring musical opens tonight.

Third Annual St. Patty's Day Fundraiser

  • Where/When: Veterans of Foreign Wars ANMAC Post No. 6253, 34 Chestnut Ave., Berlin, today, 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.
  • What’s Going On: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the VFW in Berlin and you’ll be helping the veterans save their building. Proceeds from the VFW's third annual St. Patrick’s Day party will go toward a new roof. The entire family is welcome to enjoy traditional Irish fare like ham and cabbage. There will also be shepherd’s pie, baked ziti, corned beef and more included in a large all-you-can-eat buffet. Guests will also be treated to music and drinks. There will also be a kids table, raffles for Phillies tickets, a 50/50, a bicycle giveaway, and baskets of goodies. The buffet will only be available from noon to 9 p.m.
  • Pricing: $10 donation for buffet

  • Where/When: Highland Regional High School, 450 Erial Rd., tonight through Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: The students of Highland Regional High School are performing Into the Woods. This musical, based on a book by James Lapine and music composed by Stephen Sondheim, combines the plots of many Brothers Grimm fairy tales. You’ll recognize characters from Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk. You’ll also meet a baker and his wife and watch their stories unfold as they attempt to make their wishes come true. 
  • Pricing: $10 general admission; $5 for seniors (62+), children and students with valid school IDs 

Girls Night Out at Williamstown High School

  • Where/When: Williamstown High School, 700 N. Tuckahoe Rd., Williamstown, Friday, 6 to 9 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: Ladies, make your way back to high school Friday night and bring your friends. The school will host "Girls Night Out" and you can shop for purses, candles, jewelry, Tastefully Simple brand products, Avon and more. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their unwanted gold jewelry to sell and walk away with cash. At the end of the night, the school will raise funds for Project Graduation based on the total weight of the gold submitted.
  • Pricing: $1 for admission

Myq Kaplan from NBC's Last Comic Standing 

  • Where/When: Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom St., Philadelphia, Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. 
  • What’s Going On: Myq Kaplan from NBC's Last Comic Standing graces the stage at Helium Comedy Club two nights this weekend, with two shows each night. This witty and clever comic has also been seen on Comedy Central Presents and The Tonight Show. He is a self-proclaimed word enthusiast and in 2010 released the very popular Vegan Mind Meld, a best-selling com­edy album sold on iTunes.
  • Pricing: $20-27, plus any applicable fees 

The Temptations

  • Where/When: The Scottish Rite Auditorium, 315 White Horse Pike, Collingswood, Sunday, 7 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: End your weekend with the classic sounds of The Temptations. This group, known best for its hits "My Girl" and "Ain’t Too Proud To Beg," will perform a medley of its most popular songs throughout the years. Sit back or stand up and sing along with the harmonies.
  • Pricing: Tickets are $49.50 or less, plus any applicable fees
