Great Escape: 'Art Into Fashion'

Grab your girlfriends and escape to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for "Roberto Capucci: Art into Fashion."

Walking into the Philadelphia Museum of Art's new exhibit Roberto Capucci: Art into Fashion is like stepping into a fashion dream.

The exhibit, which runs through June 5, is a buffet of spectacular colors, geometric silhouettes and amazing couture dresses. Delight in the nature-inspired Bud and Calla Lily dresses, ooh and ahhh at the famous nine skirts dress—actually made from nine skirts!—and wonder just how long it took to iron all those pleats in the Sculpture dress. There are more than 80 dresses, all designed by Capucci, an Italian fashion superstar. Dresses date from 1956 until 2007.

Art into Fashion is the only place you can see Capucci's work on display outside of Florence, Italy. So, wake up your inner fashionista, grab your best girl and head into Philly this weekend.

There are many great events around the Capucci exhibit.

  •  Today, the Art Museum will host its weekly Art After 5 concert series featuring its very own version of TV series Project Runway. Philadelphia fashion students will unveil their Capucci-inspired designs and compete in a runway show. Jay McCarroll, the first Project Runway winner, will help judge the competition. Art After 5 is free, after museum admission. The program begins at 5 p.m. While you are there, enjoy appetizers, light supper and cocktails by Starr Events in the Great Stair Hall.
  • Splurge on the Ultimate Capucci Package for $78 per person. Package includes a weekday ticket to Capucci (Monday-Friday), a three-course lunch or dinner at Granite Hill restaurant, and a copy of the lavish Capucci catalog.
  • Visit the Capucci exhibit Tuesday through Sunday now through June 5. Tickets include entry to the entire museum. Prices: $22, adult; $20, seniors; $17, youth ages 13-18; $7, children ages 5-12; free, children under 4. Online and telephone service charges add $3 to the cost of each ticket.
