Mainstage Offers Full Summer Theater Schedule

The Camden County College-based theater group's children's theater brings four productions to the stage July 13 through Aug. 5, while the adults bring "Hairspray" to town later this month.

Mainstage Center for the Arts will present Hairspray to theater audiences later this month.

But it's not the only production the Camden County College-based theater company will bring to the township this summer.

Far from it, in fact.

The 23rd Summer Stage Children's Theatre schedule includes four musicals, starting off with Camp Rock, which runs July 13-15. The Camp Rock performance is based on the Disney Camp Rock movies.

Then comes Aladdin Jr., which will run July 20-22, followed by Annie Jr. July 27-29 and Disney Princesses and Friends Aug. 3-5.

The final performance of the 23rd Summer Stage season is a musical revue featuring popular Disney tunes such as “Be Our Guest,” “Once Upon a Dream” and “Under the Sea,” to name just a few.

Tickets for Mainstage Summer Stage's 2011 Children’s Theatre morning performances (Thursday and Friday, 10:30 a.m.) cost just $9 for children and senior citizens and only $11 for adults, while the Wednesday evening (7:30 p.m.) performances are $11 for children/seniors and $12 for adults.

Mainstage's grown-up performers return to the stage on Friday, July 22, when Hairspray premieres. The musical is set in 1962 Baltimore, where Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and a big dream—to dance on the Corny Collins Show.

The Dennis Flyer Theater curtain also goes up for Hairspray, which is sponsored by Techniques Salon and Spa, on Saturday, July 23, and Friday and Saturday, July 29 and 30. All performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
