Turkey Day and Weekend Fun

Gloucester Township Patch has picked six events for those of all ages to enjoy.

Thanksgiving is a time most of us count our blessings, feast and spend time with family and friends. If you are looking to start a new family tradition, just want to head out or reconnect with old friends, we've picked the best events this holiday weekend has to offer. For those of you really looking to take it easy, one event even gives you the day off from cooking that Turkey Day bird.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

  • Where/When: 20th and Market Streets, Philadelphia, PA (starting point); parade route then runs along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway; Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • What's Going On: This is the 92nd year for this parade and there's nothing like being there in person, seeing the floats up close and watching the live entertainment. Bundling up for the parade is something the entire family can enjoy and the special guest that will close the parade is Santa Claus!
  • Price: Free to attend

Dinner at the Mansion

  • Where/When: The Mansion at Main Street, 3000 Main Street, Voorhees; Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Call for reservations: 856-751-1717)
  • What's Going On: This event is wonderful. It means no cooking, no dishes, and no cleaning. Just show up at The Mansion and they've prepared a feast for you. The dinner buffet will include turkey, apple and cranberry stuffing, prime rib, ham, baked ziti, a salad buffet, salmon, and so many other good eats. There will also be valet parking and live entertainment.
  • Price: Adults, $37.95; Seniors 62 and Over, $34.95; Children 3-10, $9.95; Children Under 3 are Free (plus tax and gratuity)

Camden Adventure Aquarium

  • Where/When: Camden Adventure Aquarium, 1 Riverside Dr., Camden; Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • What's Going On: To help you celebrate the holiday and save some cash, the Camden Adventure Aquarium is offering free parking Thanksgiving Day. Some of the aquarium's exhibits are the shark realm, penguin island, their 4D theater, feather ridge plus many more.
  • Price: Adults, $22.95; Children (2-12) $17.95; Children under 2 are Free (plus tax)

An Unremarkable Girl Book Signing

  • Where/When: Starbucks Coffee, 1490 Blackwood Clementon Rd., Clementon; Saturday, 10 a.m.
  • What's Going On: Visit Starbucks this Saturday and get more than just coffee. Ellen Parry Lewis is a local author having her first book signing for her new novel, An Unremarkable Girl. The book follows Krisanna Wether, a young farm girl, with a goal of freeing her people from enslavement. Read as she lives life as a prisoner, a princess and more. Future Vision, Lewis' first young adult novel, will also be available.
  • Price: Free to attend (book, food & beverage prices vary)

Collingswood Holiday Parade

  • Where/When: Haddon Ave. and Zane St., Collingswood; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • What's Going On: In case you missed the big parade in Philadelphia on Thursday, come out to this closer-to-home event. There will be lots of festive floats, live bands, dancers and entertainers.
  • Price: Free to attend

Riley’s Believe It Or Not

  • Where/When: Garden State Discovery Museum, 2040 Springdale Rd., Suite 100, Cherry Hill; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • What's Going On: We found this cool event on the Garden State Discovery Museum's website. Little dinosaur enthusiasts will love meeting Riley Chanler. He is popular on YouTube for his dino talks and has appeared on The Ellen Show. He visits New Jersey and Alabama just to share his dinosaur experience.
  • Price: $10.95 for adults and children 12 months and over; $9.95 for seniors
