Gloucester Township Police are launching Operation Safe Students for the start of school today.
The program enhances traffic enforcement initiatives, increases patrols on and around the school campuses and includes a public education campaign with specific emphasis on increasing the safety of students as they travel to and from school. Operation Safe Students aims to educate drivers of their responsibilities especially when driving through school zones and neighborhood bus stop locations and also encourages residents to report any safety concern or suspicious activity that may affect the safety of school students.
Enhanced Enforcement and patrol campaigns began this week. Officers will focus their efforts on vehicles that fail to stop for crossing guards and buses displaying red flashing lights that are taking on or discharging students and also for driver’s texting while driving and speeding through school zones. Additionally, officers will be proactively patrolling school campuses.
