Amtrak Breaks Ridership Record Again

Amtrak has broken ridership records 10 times in the last 11 years, including fiscal year 2013.

Amtrak saw its 10th increase in ridership in the last 11 years this year, nj.com reports.

Despite temporary problems caused by Superstorm Sandy last year, the Northeast Corridor remains the most lucrative of Amtrak’s routes, garnering 11.4 million of Amtrak’s 31.6 million riders, according to the report. The previous year, the line saw 31.2 million riders.

The Northeast Corridor includes New Jersey, New York and the Acela Express, which opened in 2000.

Amtrak brought in $2.1 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2013, which runs from Oct. 1, 2012-Sept. 30, 2012. This is up $2 billion from the previous year, according to the report.

The top five stations in the state are Newark, Trenton, Metropark, Newark Airport and Princeton Junction, which serviced 45,685 passengers last year, according to the report.

Philadelphia and New York are among the seven busiest Amtrak stations nationally, as are stations in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston and Sacramento, the report noted.
