Great Escape: Taste of Philadelphia

Escape to Philly's Waterfront this weekend to kick off the Wawa "Welcome America!" celebration and to savor local flavors.

Food, music and the city—a perfect escape to celebrate the first official weekend of summer.

Taste of Philadelphia begins today at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. The three-day event features food samples from local restaurants, award-winning food trucks and lots of music. While there might be a cheesesteak or two, expect to sample the best of the best that Philadelphia's food scene has to offer.

And while you can bring the kids, this event is so much more fun without a stroller to push or a face to wipe (except if it is your own!).

Admission is free—food samples start at a buck, making it )—so you can go for a long time or for a little. Fabulous Philadelphia restaurants like the Jamaican Jerk Hut (a personal fave), Tiffin, Marabella Meatball Company and more will have samples of their classic menu items, plus some new surprises. Each evening ends with a spectacular music performance on the main stage at Penns Landing.

Saturday night is the highlight with R&B Legend Aaron Neville performing. Neville hits the stage around 8 p.m. The evening ends with fireworks over the Delaware—an oh-so-romantic setting!

If you go, take PATCO (save the headache of festival traffic) from Lindenwold to the 8th and Market stop ($5.40 for a round-trip ticket). PATCO runs all night long, so stay out late!

Taste of Philadelphia will be held tonight from 5 to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to  7 p.m. Admission is free, but bring cash for samples. For more info, check out VisitPhilly.com.
