Mayor Invites Residents to New Holiday Tradition

The second annual Gloucester Township Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held Sunday evening.

Mayor David Mayer wants Gloucester Township residents to join him Sunday evening for what he hopes will become a new holiday tradition for locals.

At 6 p.m. Sunday, Mayer and members of the Township Council will light the township's holiday tree in Lt. Col. Samuel M. Siler Veterans Memorial Park for the Christmas season.

Members of Mainstage Center for the Arts' Harmony and Encore choirs will perform holiday favorites for the tree-lighting ceremony.

"Last year's was really nice," Gentek said. "This year, we're going to have the whole thing outside. Last year, we went inside (after the tree's lights were turned on)."

Sunday night's tree-lighting ceremony isn't the only township-sponsored event scheduled for this weekend aiming to get residents into the holiday spirit.

Bring the kids out to the Gloucester Township Recreation Center Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for brunch with Santa Claus.
