Mother's Day Brunch at Home

Three great menus to make for your favorite mom—all for less than $15.

Brunch is absolutely the best meal ever invented. It is fancy, you can eat pretty much anything from eggs to steak, and it is an amazing way to celebrate.

This Mother's Day skip the crowded restaurants and save your cash to get your mom something fab (like maybe a massage package or something shiny). Cooking with love is an amazing way to celebrate your mom or wife for all the things she does every day.

These are my favorite tried and true brunch recipes—perfect for eating in bed, on your patio and with your favorite mom.

1. Room Service French Toast

Grab a 99¢ baguette from on Chews Landing Road, some staples (an orange, milk, jam and eggs), bacon (on sale at two for $6) and maybe some fresh Jersey strawberries from This French toast is infused with orange flavor and topped with your favorite jam. It is better than room service—perfect for serving your mom in bed. The kids can help too—let them dip the bread before frying.

Total cost: about $12.

2. Ham & Cheddar Frittata

Frittata sounds so chic, but are really just a hybrid of an omelet and a quiche. You can add any fillings you want—meat, cheeses, veggies or herbs. And you can make ahead and reheat. Grab a ham steak (typically under $3 at ShopRite), some eggs (Walgreens for just $1.29), a block of sharp cheddar (Cabot on sale for $1.49 at ShopRite) and a cantalope ($1.99 at Tony Morelli's Market). With the cash you saved, you can spring for two dozen roses.

Total cost: about $8

3. Breakfast Tostada

Tostadas are sort of like open-faced quesadillas. This recipe combines flour tortillas (about $3) eggs, black beans ( for $1.09), avocados (Acme for $1), Mexican shredded cheese (Acme for $1.88), salsa and some fresh vegetables from your produce drawer. It is super tasty and can be made spicy for your Tex-Mex-loving mom. Serve it with some sliced mango on the side.

Total cost: about $10
