Sandy Leaves GT Roads Closed

Heavy wind from Superstorm Sandy leaves poles down and wires in streets, but flooding appears to have receded in the township.

Gloucester Township Police warn motorists that four roadways remain closed due to downed wires from Superstorm Sandy overnight.

The closed roadways are:

  • Kelly Drivers Lane between Hider Lane and Downs Avenue
  • Old Black Horse Pike in the area of Fairways Apartments
  • High Street at Huntingdon Avenue
  • Cleveland Avenue at Harrison Avenue and the Black Horse Pike

Williamstown Erial Road and Berlin-Cross Keys Road have been reopened after being shut down Monday due to flooding.

Gloucester Township Municipal Building will remain closed Tuesday. Schools in the area, including Black Horse Pike Regional and Gloucester Township Public Schools' elementary and middle schools, also remain closed.

Officials have not yet made a decision whether Halloween trick-or-treating will be held on Wednesday, as scheduled. A decision is expected later today after an assessment of conditions in the community.

I hope they reschedule it. Who can think about trick or treating when a huge chunk of the state is completely destroyed?

My kids said they'd be a little dissapointed but I told them that if they rescheduled it for the weekend it would be a lot more fun for them anyway! It would also give last minute procrastinators who didn't have a chance to get out and get candy before the storm, the opportunity to get out. (and yes, there are a bunch of them!)
Plus, isn't it supposed to continue to be cold and rainy tomorrow?

It's been rescheduled for Friday, 3 to 7, Michelle.
