South Jersey Farmers Markets Begin Opening

Farmers markets throughout South Jersey—some weekly events, some roadside shops—have begun selling fresh produce, local goods and more. Find out when your favorite market will open.

The first week of May brings a flurry of farmers market openings to South Jersey. Whether you want to eat organic or support local farmers, there are plenty of options throughout the region.

Our local roundup focuses on farmers markets in and near our South Jersey Patch sites (Cherry Hill, Cinnaminson, Collingswood, Gloucester Township, Haddonfield-Haddon Township, Moorestown and West Deptford). Cherry Hill

Springdale Farm Market is a mainstay in Cherry Hill, and the township’s last working farm. The market has a selection of produce, baked goods, pasta, sauces and condiments and more.

Opens: Year-round

Where: 1638 South Springdale Road, Cherry Hill

When: Daily; Monday-Saturday 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Cinnaminson

Hunter’s Farm Market is a daily option in Cinnaminson. In addition to “Jersey Fresh” produce, the market has baked goods, salad dressings, BBQ sauces and rubs and more.

Opened: May 2

Collingswood

Collingswood Farmers Market, now in its 13th year, is one of the area’s largest. Collingswood also won the title of America’s Favorite Farmers Market.

Opens: Saturday, May 4 at 8 a.m.

Where: Between Collings and Irvin avenues, along the PATCO line, Collingswood

When: Every Saturday, rain or shine, 8 a.m.-noon until Thanksgiving

Gloucester Township

Blackwood Farmers Market waits until summer to open. It features produces, baked goods, jewelry, soaps, crafts and more.

Opens: Saturday, June 29 at 8:30 a.m.

Where: 15 South Black Horse Pike, Blackwood

When: Every Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., until Sept. 28

Haddon Heights

Haddon Heights Farmers Market is a relative newcomer to the local scene, and ready to start its third season.

Opens: Sunday, May 5

Where: Station and Atlantic avenues, Haddon Heights

When: Every Sunday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., through October

Haddon Township

Westmont Farmers Market is in its fifth year. It’s one of the area’s midweek markets and attracts farmers, local food vendors and more.

Opened: May 1

Where: Stratford and Haddon avenues, Haddon Township

When: Every Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. until Oct. 30

Haddonfield

Haddonfield Farmers Market will begin its seventh season in the center of town. The five-month market features free samples, games for kids and more, in addition to the produce and food sold.

Opens: Saturday, May 18 at 8:30 a.m.

Where: Kings Court, Haddonfield

When: Every Saturday, rain or shine, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. until Oct. 26

Merchantville

Merchantville Farmers Market is another newbie on the local scene, and puts a strong focus on organic foods.

Opens: Saturday, June 1 at 9 a.m.

Where: Chestnut Avenue and Centre Street, Merchantville

When: First and third Saturdays of the month, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., until Oct. 19

Moorestown

Moorestown is home to both the Burlington County Farmers Market and several right-at-the-farm choices.

Burlington County Farmers Market

Opens: Saturday, May 18 at 8:30 a.m.

Where: 500 Centerton Road (intersection of Centerton and Hartford roads), Moorestown

When: Every Saturday, rain or shine, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., until Oct. 26

Browning-Hess Farm

Opened: April 25

Where: 824 N. Lenola Road, Moorestown

When: Daily, 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m., through Oct. 30

Flying Feather Farm

Opened: April 25

Where: 347 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown

When: Daily, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., until Thanksgiving

Lew's Farm Market

Opened: Early April

Where: 864 N. Lenola Road, Moorestown

When: Daily, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., through November

West Deptford

DeHart’s Farm Fresh Produce’s roadside market has strawberries, tomatoes, corn, blueberries and much more.

Opened: May

Where: 355 Jessup Road, Thorofare

When: Daily through Halloween; Monday-Friday 9 a.m.- 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Note: The Woodbury Farmers Market will not return for the 2013 season.
