Three-Town Black Horse Pike Parade to Honor Vets Announced

The parade will be held along the Black Horse Pike in Gloucester Township and Runnemede on Saturday, June 23.

A parade in honor of military veterans will be held along the Black Horse Pike (Route 168) the morning of Saturday, June 23.

The "Welcome Home Veterans Parade" will begin at the war memorial at Eighth Avenue in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township and end at Eighth Avenue in Runnemede, according to Kevin Bucceroni, vice president of the Black Horse Pike Regional School Disrict Board of Education and a member of the committee organizing the first-of-its-kind parade.

"We are having the first welcome home parade to welcome home our troops with the closing of the Iraqi war," Bucceroni said in announcing the parade at Gloucester Township Council's meeting Wednesday night.

It is expected the parade and related celebrations and ceremonies along the route will run from about 9 a.m. to noon. The Black Horse Pike will be shut down during the parade, officials said.

"This should be a very moving event, and it should bring out a lot of people," Councilman Sam Siler, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, said at the conclusion of Wednesday's meeting.

Veterans from the three Black Horse Pike Regional School District towns—Gloucester Township, Bellmawr and Runnemede—are invited to participate in the parade

Bucceroni invited Council members and the public to participate in the special event.

"We'd like to really show our troops how much we care for them. Bring a flag and a homemade sign," he said.
