Township's Third Annual Tree Lighting Sunday

Boy Scouts Troop 177 will have the Peace Light on hand.

Gloucester Township's annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony will take place Sunday evening.

The event, held at Lt. Col. Samuel M. Siler Veterans Memorial Park, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

It will mark the third straight year Mayor David Mayer and members of Township Council have been joined by community members to light up the tree at the joint entrance to the park and Chews Landing Road municipal complex.

Boys Scouts Troop 177 will have the Peace Light its members retrieved from JFK Airport in New York City on Monday at the tree-lighting ceremony, allowing residents to light their only "peace candles" to take home.

Also, Blackwood-based Mainstage Center for the Arts' Harmony and Encore choirs will perform Christmas favorites.

It's worth noting that, as of 5:15 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service was calling for a 60 percent chance of rain Sunday night, with a high on Sunday of 51 degrees.
