Wind Advisory in Effect as Storm Approaches South Jersey

Packing a serious punch to surrounding states, a storm is making landfall in South Jersey.

A storm packing strong winds and heavy rainfall is barreling into South Jersey, with the heaviest weather still to come.

With significant snowfall already in  parts of Maryland and Pennsylvania, Lee Robertson, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, says South Jersey can expect to see snowfall begin this afternoon, around rush hour. Robertson explains that the majority of snowfall will occur during the evening, and into the overnight hours.

“It’s a very slow moving storm at this point,” says Robertson.

While this storm has already hit hard in places, such as our nation’s capital, shutting down schools and federal offices with an expected 10 inches of snow as reported by CNN, most of South Jersey can expect much less, with a range of 1-4 inches of total snowfall.

Yet, wind gusts for the area are another story. With a wind advisory already in effect for the area, Robertson says that wind gust are expected to increase from their current speed of 40 mph to anywhere from 45 to 50 mph throughout the afternoon and into the evening. According to the wind advisory posted on the National Weather Service’s site, motorists should exercise extra caution during this time and those at home are urged to secure lightweight outdoor objects, such as garbage cans or patio furniture.
