In the Shadow of Pompeii

This 15-week course will deal with the development of Rome as an independent city state, the political struggle that resulted in the emergence of the Republic, its expansion in Italy and beyond. The course will be complemented by the five part guest lecture series "In the Shadow of Vesuvius: Rome and the Destruction of Pompeii" featuring talks by five visiting classical scholars.
