Gloucester Township Officials Help 'Bag Hunger'

Gov. Christie declared Wednesday as ShopRite Partners In Caring Day.

Gloucester Township Mayor David Mayer participated in a campaign Wednesday to raise money for local food banks.

Mayer worked as an honorary grocery bagger at the ShopRite of Chews Landing, which was accepted monetary donations to help fill the shelves of community food banks.

In honor of September’s National Hunger Action Month, governors across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland issued proclamations declaring Wednesday as ShopRite Partners In Caring Day. With nearly 50 million Americans, including more than 16 million children, suffering from food insecurity, ShopRite Partners In Caring, a year-round, community based charity, is helping to raise awareness and inspire action within their local communities

Since its inception in 1999, ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated $30 million to local food banks that support more than 1,700 charities in providing food assistance throughout the Northeast.
