We Will Never Forget

In remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001, we pray on Patriot Day

Sept. 11, 2001 has become for the current generation what Nov. 22, 1963 and Dec. 7, 1941 were for previous generations. Americans around the world still remember where they were when that first plane hit the World Trade Center. In that dark moment, Americans realized that this was not a tragic accident, but an attack. Within a few hours, a shocked and devastated country learned that another plane had hit the Pentagon and that a fourth plane had been taken down by a small band of courageous citizens, who willingly sacrificed their own lives to prevent more deaths.

In the days that followed, Americans banded together in ways that had not been seen in this country since World War II. People everywhere could be seen proudly displaying the American flag. In our nation’s capital, President George W. Bush encouraged communities to join together in prayer for not only the families of those that had lost loved ones in the attacks, but for the courageous men and women that went into the burning buildings while others were running to safety.
Across our nation, millions of people filled churches to pray for our president and members of government, as well as fire, rescue, police, and military personnel.

It is in that spirit that the Office of Military Affairs is asking each member of the Liberty University family to observe a day of remembrance on Patriot Day, Sept. 11, 2013. Join us as we remember and pray for not only our nation and its leaders, but for the heroic men and women that stand in harm’s way on a daily basis.

While we often remember to pray for the U.S. Armed Services members around the world, let us also remember those who serve here at home. Especially on Patriot Day, let us remember the men and women who serve in law enforcement, fire and rescue, and armed forces members stationed here at home.

Will you join us in prayer today?

Sincerely,

Emily Foutz
Director of Military Affairs
