Che Guevara Déjà Vu

I ran across this in Wikipedia's biography of Che Guevara, and I was startled at how close it told the truth about what Mitt Romney and right-wing Republican political election motives are.

In a speech to the ministerial meeting of the Inter-American Economic and Social Council (CIES), in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on Aug. 8, 1961, "Guevara antagonistically attacked the United States claim of being a 'democracy,' stating that such a system [democracy] was not compatible with "financial oligarchy, discrimination against blacks, and outrages by the Ku Klux Klan."

Che's statement today is chillingly still true. Powerful individuals, Wall street and large corporations colluding with corrupt politicians are the financial oligarchy whose sole goal is to produce a concentration of wealth among their privileged few. They continue to discriminate and demonize minorities like poor whites, women, blacks and Latinos, who are held hostage to poverty through low wages and the lack of self-improvement initiatives. This results in disproportionally enriching the wealthy.

The ghost of the Ku Klux Klan can still be seen in the racial violence against minorities perpetrated by police, our justice systems and prisons.

The most egregious form of discrimination is voter suppression. It is in progress, right now in states under Republican governors and legislatures' control, like Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Wisconsin, to name the most flagrant. Think poll tax and voter literacy tests.

Che was right. We've become a nation with an overwhelming number of greed driven racists whose right-wing agenda is not compatible with democracy.
