Special Education in Gloucester Township Schools Petitioned.

Parents have started a Petition to prevent Gloucester Township Public Schools from removing Title 1 classrooms from Blackwood,Loring Flemming and Erial Elementary schools. These classes have been available here for years and always full. The District will still continued to receive funds from the Government for Title 1  programs as well as your tax dollars. Where is the Special Education Department spending/wasting all their money? They do not appear to be managed well .Do they know exactly what they are doing? Special Education Parents have many concerns. Some have lawsuits filed .Others are just finding out about the inner workings, decisions and changes. At a recent Board of Education Meeting  a parent questioned  the qualifications of a person given a new position in the Autism Classrooms. She will be advising Teachers on Behaviors of students with Autism  and how to handle them and making plans for those children. The concern is she is not a Certified Teacher and she isn't a  licensed School Psychologist .She isn't Certified by the State of NJ or NJBOE in anything. She was a former Aide. Her salary is over $52,000.00. Salaries like this is where the Special Education dollars are being spent. They selected her without posting the new job anywhere. Parents want to know, How can someone with no Certifications be allowed to advise Certified  Licensed Teachers on what they should be doing for their Students with Autism? Why would we want that? This was that Moms concern when she asked the questions. She was not given an answer .Other School Districts advertise for the same position but they require a Certified Teacher or a Licensed Psychologist and it does not make sense that we would want less. Especially when a Starting Teachers Salary in our District is less than $52.000.00. Our non certified person is making more than that. Money can't be the reason for accepting less.Parents are concerned that this department no longer realizes what they are doing or what is best for the children. Check out the Petition on the GloucesterTownshipnjparents page on facebook. Special Needs Parents must join together to get these numerous problems addressed.
