Descending Into the Pit of 'Hollyweird'

"The Dark Knight Rises" director Christopher Nolan describes the Aurora killer's actions as senseless, but fails to mention that the madman's actions were lifted right from his own movies.

Charles Hurt of The Washington Times has done us all a favor and has put into writing what I have been saying for years by publishing with his July 24 analysis/opinion piece titled, “An open letter to Christopher Nolan, Sean Penn and Warner Brothers.” I encourage you to click the link and read his thoughts but for those who choose not to go there I will provide my own thoughts below.

It is interesting to see the Patch blog pieces on the newest "Hollyweird" releases that never mention the downside of putting such trash on the big screen. And then we all recoil in surprise when fellow citizens act out what they see on the big screen as if, “There’s no connection; it’s only a movie.”

Add to that the pontificating that comes from such admirable personages as Christopher Nolan and Sean Penn, who have given us some of the most violent action we could hope to see and then tell us how shocked they are that someone would actually act that way and go even further by attempting to tell us how to live our lives; classic "Hollyweird" know-it-all types in the vein of Rosie O’Donnell if ever I’ve seen them.

Here’s some of the gibberish that comes out of the mouths of these people:

Christopher Nolan (director of The Dark Knight Rises) was devastated that such an “innocent and hopeful place” such as a theater—one that screens his “twisted” movies—would be violated in such an “unbearably savage” way as the scenario that was just played out in Aurora, CO, last week. After all, according to Mr. Nolan, twisted movies such as his latest entry into the Hall of Violence, The Dark Knight Rises, are “one of the great American art forms.”

Mr. Nolan describes the Aurora killer’s actions as senseless, but fails to mention that the madman’s actions were lifted right from Nolan’s movies.

The Dark Knight Rises co-star Anne Hathaway had this to say: “My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act…” Might I remind Ms. Hathaway, and all who might be reading, that these “senseless acts” did not materialize out of thin air or in the madman’s mind, but came directly out of Mr. Nolan’s movies of which she has made herself a part. In that respect they were not “senseless” at all, but made perfect sense for those fantasizing about the world of the Dark Knight. My words to Anne Hathaway: Please spare us your sentiments because they appear meaningless under the circumstances.

I believe that it is noteworthy that one of the trailers that showed in Aurora was Sean Penn’s latest release and apparently included scenes where actors with machine guns unload from behind a movie screen into a crowded theater. Classic art forms, if I do say so myself.

While people like Nolan and Penn did not actually pull the trigger they were definitely the inspiration behind such behavior.

And yet while complaining that we don’t have enough "gun control," these know-it-all "Hollyweird" types continue to publish the most violent of fantasy that plays on the minds of those sick individuals in our society who not only take their cue in thinking like Nolan and Penn, but are also willing to put those thoughts into action. And yet Nolan and Penn could not be held responsible, could they? Why when Gabby Giffords was shot was there no fear on the part of the media and liberal left to put the blame on conservatives as if they directly drove the individual who harmed her?

And while we’re on the subject, what part do Warner Brothers and their counterparts have in all this violence? I just love seeing the disclaimer at the beginning of every DVD movie I watch where I am informed that the views and commentary expressed in the movie are not necessarily those of the publishing studio. Bunk!

And how’s this for compassion? Out of “respect” for the victims in Aurora, Warner Brothers stated it was going to forgo announcing box-office receipts for the opening weekend. Well, thank you very much for your concern.

I would be remiss if I stopped here without mentioning the wisdom of The Patch in publishing Mr. Sean Gallagher’s blog piece: “The Dark Knight Rises Review,” to which I have purposely not provided a link. While I’m in no way suggesting censorship, I do question the wisdom shown in publishing this piece at this time. Again, as mentioned above, I wonder how we can so easily connect the conservative right to the Giffords incident without any real evidence but can’t seem to make the connection here to "Hollyweird."

Mr. Gallagher has written:

“It goes without saying that no Batman on-screen villain could ever live up to the Joker…” and the incident in Aurora will guarantee that.

Additionally, the line, “There is so much to appreciate about this film (The Dark Knight Rises),” informs me that you, Mr. Gallagher, have a lot to learn.

Admittedly, Mr. Gallagher tried to distance the movie from the shooter: “The shooter is not only responsible for taking innocent lives and maiming many others, but in turning something as safe and fun as a movie theater into a nightmarish hell.” For your information, Mr. Gallagher, the shooter was not the only one who turned that theater into a nightmarish hell—Mr. Nolan, Sean Penn, and all their associates who publish such violent trash have been doing it for years. To use a time-worn phrase, “The chickens now are only coming home to roost.”

If you, Mr. Gallagher, or anybody else, is interested in a long list of movies that do not glory in such extreme violence as given us by Mr. Nolan, Mr. Penn, and Warner Brothers, I would be more than happy to provide you with a long list of such films that can entertain without lowering the providers and the watchers of such entertainment to the level of violent, mindless brutes.

Have at me, "Hollyweird" lovers. I would expect nothing else.
