What's Wrong With Our Government?

The Department of Homeland Security has recently made large purchases of full-auto assault weapons (weapons they don't want you to have) and billions of rounds of hollow point ammunition. Why?

On or about June 7th, 2012, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) put out a request for bid (Solicitation Number: HSCEMS-12-R-00011) to supply DHS with 7,000 full-auto “assault rifles” for domestic use inside the USA.

Understand this, when these weapons are held by Homeland Security they are referred to as “Personal Defense Weapons” but if you or I attempt to purchase such they are referred to as “assault rifles”; very curious indeed.

Do you happen to remember this quote, “AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals; that they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities” (Barack Obama)?

Coming from the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, that is a very curious statement. American troops do not use the AK-47; it is a Russian developed weapon. That, my friends, borders on insult to our troops because the AK-47 is exactly what is used to kill U.S. troops. The president’s ignorance aside, which is really inexcusable, his point is that such battlefield-style weapons have no place on our streets…unless, it seems, that they are in the hands of the Department of Homeland Security.

The DHS, as reported in April of 2012, awarded a contract to ammunition manufacturer ATK for 450 million rounds of .40 caliber hollow point ammunition. Do you know what hollow point ammo is used for? Hollow point ammo is used to take down a living being, whether human or animal. To the best of my knowledge the DHS has not scheduled any hunting excursions so I have to believe that this ammo is meant for human targets if needed.

So, how much damage can 450 million rounds of ammo do? From testimony given in 2004 about active battle operations in Iraq it was stated that 5.5 million rounds, give or take, per month were expended. Throwing in a little slippage, we are essentially talking about 70 million rounds per year to wage war in Iraq. Cutting to the chase; in the purchase mentioned, DHS has enough ammo to wage war for 6.4 years. Think about that because that’s only the beginning.

In the past year, DHS has purchased approximately 2,000,000,000 (2 billion) rounds of ammo. The U.S population is probably hovering around 315 million right about now. Do you realize that DHS has enough ammo to pump over 6 rounds into each man, woman, and child in the United States. To what end, I might ask?

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” (Barack Obama – July, 2008).

What exactly, I would ask, are our “national security objectives?” What is it that Mr. Obama thinks is going to happen? Maybe he thinks that people will refuse to accept ObamaCare and will rebel. Maybe he thinks that people will get so tired of his deficit spending and lack of jobs that they will riot in the street. I’m not sure exactly what he thinks but if we consider his comment and then juxtapose it against what’s going on with DHS…well, I’m not sure we could get a better match.

Where am I going with this? Well, are you comfortable with what I’ve related above? Do you doubt what I’ve told you? Are you concerned enough to look into it yourself? Or do you figure everything will be all right?

Some have hinted…actually, stated outright that I have a problem with all government.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…” (Declaration of Independence).

No, I don’t have a problem with government when it operates as it was supposed to as defined by the Declaration of Independence and later by the Constitution.

Are you aware…

“That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness" (Declaration of Independence)(?)

So, I ask, what’s wrong with our government? Why is our government stockpiling billions of rounds of deadly hollow point ammunition and who is the intended target of such?

I am a family man…I have six children; I have one grandchild and one on the way. I am very concerned about the actions of my government that is supposed to function of, for, and by the people. What concerns you? Which teams have made it to the Sweet Sixteen? That’s what seems to concern Mr. Obama while his Department of Homeland Security stockpiles billions of rounds of ammo and full-auto assault weapons and then stonewalls Congress when asked what is going on.

I weep for my nation and the future of our children.
