Shame-Shame Mayor Mayer!

As a candidate for Gloucester Township Council, I attended the Wednesday evening, 15 October 2013, council meeting with the intent of gaining information for myself and the residents of Gloucester Township as to the progress being made on the Gloucester Premium Outlets.

As a reminder, when the original issue of the Outlets was approved, we were told that Fall-2013 was the target date for the commencement of construction with an eye to Fall-2014 as a grand opening.

Having heard nothing else since, I stood before council and asked if anyone could comment on any progress being made on the project. Nothing!

I rephrased my question and pointed out that GT residents had been told that construction would commence in Fall-2013 and, given the date of 15 October, wondered if anybody had any further information as to when we might see construction vehicles appear at the site. Mr. Orlando Mercado responded that Fall-2013 extended to December 19th (actually it’s the 20th) and so there was still time. That off-putting comment aside, my question received no answer. Nothing!

I tried to rephrase it one more time – third time’s the charm, as they say. I then pointed out that three sitting members on council were incumbent candidates and part of Team-Mayer in the upcoming November 5th, 2013, general election and that since Team-Mayer had made bringing the Premium Outlets to GT and “The Greatest Economic Development Gloucester Township had ever seen” a large part of its campaign platform, was it not in the voting public’s interest to ask and know whether the promise of the start of construction would occur before election day? Could anyone answer as to a progress update? Nothing!

Now here’s the dirty little secret that was being harbored by some, if not all, of township council. Another resident took the floor after me and asked if council had a (working) relationship with the mayor. Nothing! She pressed her question by outlining her attendance at a small, local community meeting she had attended only recently where David Mayer, Mayor of Gloucester Township and incumbent lead of Team-Mayer, had informed the residents in attendance that the Gloucester Premium Outlets’ project was not slated to break ground until Spring-2014 with an eye to a grand opening in Spring-2015.

At least three members of council, the three incumbent members of Team-Mayer, if not all the members of council, knew about this new commencement date but sat silent and allowed me to ask questions about the project while laboring under the fallacy of a Fall-2014 ground-breaking date.

Now, I ask you the residents and voters of Gloucester Township, is this what you expect from your governing leadership: lies and cover-ups of the truth?

Shame on you, Mrs. Winters - from a hockey mom to a Team-Mayer shill in such a short time.

Shame on you, Mr. Schmidt - from a respected teacher to a water-carrier for Dave Mayer.

Shame on you, Mr. Hutchison - no further comment needed.

And, finally, SHAME ON YOU, MAYOR MAYER!

Ø  Shame on you for parking your 40-foot truck-BBQ trailer out in front of our campaign event.

Ø  Shame on you for going into hiding from your constituents and avoiding council meetings where you might feel uncomfortable because of the questions your constituents might ask.

Ø  Shame on you for taking your campaign into our churches where you dragged your political cronies up to the pulpit with you and introduced them with regard to their political office.

Ø  Shame on you for erecting a statue to honor yourself and dedicating a community park to yourself.

Ø  Shame on you for the scam you have perpetrated around the Field of Dreams.

Ø  Shame on you for campaign smear advertising.

Ø  Shame on you for perpetrating the lie of an 11% rise in housing values when my friend in Blackwood just sold her house at a 21% loss from its assessed value.

Ø  And SHAME ON YOU for allowing untruths about the Gloucester Premium Outlets to carry the day for you.

P. T. Barnum is quoted as saying, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” Who would have imagined, however, that Dave Mayer and his Team-Mayer cronies thought that they all lived in Gloucester Township?

To use another well-worn phrase, attributed to Abraham Lincoln, in response, “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, BUT…you cannot fool all the people all the time.”

The time for foolishness is now over. Will you continue to be fooled by Team-Mayer photo-ops where Democrats take credit for anything positive that happens in town as if no one else helped? Will you be wooed by a mayor who absents himself from official township meetings where residents seek answers? Will you be fooled by a mayor who tows around a BBQ trailer to give a few of those on the “family and friends” plan a free hotdog or hamburger and then parks that same BBQ trailer, plastered all over with his name and campaign slogan, in front of his opponent’s campaign events in a trick that is below even child’s play?

Will you get out and vote for change on November 5th?

If not now? When? If not you? Who?

VOTE Gloucester Township FIRST.
