Team-Mayer's New Transparency: Negative Campaign Literature

[Disclosure: This blog is written from my perspective as both a candidate for a seat on Gloucester Township Council and as a concerned citizen of Gloucester Township with questions and concerns about reckless spending and business as usual in Gloucester Township.]

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things” (1 Corinthians 13:11 - New Testament).

Attached is the most recent campaign literature from our Democrat friends. The word “childish” comes to mind but might be an understatement. Apparently Team-Mayer never moved beyond "childish things." I know...the “Paid for” line identifies the Gloucester Township Citizens for Responsible Government as the authors.  You see, Councilman Dan Hutchison was correct all along, our concern is not with PACs, our real concern is Super PACs. Seriously, Dan?

So, you can connect the dots here; it really is not that hard to find out who is running this so-called PAC, but the Democrat operatives are counting on the fact that you won’t go through the trouble. In fact, check on which township employees and/or contractors have made donations to this group and all the pieces will come together.

In another Democrat child’s shenanigan, the Team-Mayer BBQ trailer was parked directly in front of one of our campaign events and a loyal operative afterwards asked how we knew for sure that Dave Mayer was behind his trailer parked conspicuously out in front of our event for two hours. Here’s the thing, if Mr. Mayer did not know his trailer was there then things in this township are even worse than I have characterized them. If I have a campaign trailer with my name on it, I better damn well know who is driving it and where.

So the question of who is responsible for the attached campaign literature smear is really incidental. In fact, in the words of Sherlock Holmes, it’s elementary. Is this Mayor Mayer’s idea of the New Transparency that he promised when taking office in 2010?

Moving on to the actual content of the smear literature… “Republicans say the MOST EXTREME THINGS” with a picture of Alfred E. Neuman.

Does anyone think this election is a game? Does anybody who reads my blogs care to comment on whether they think I am treating this election as a game? I am dead serious in my candidacy because some of the people who are running our town seem to put too many things above the concerns of the taxpaying residents.

My opponents and those responsible for the attached campaign smear literature are treating the voters of GT as near idiots. Is Alfred E. Neuman really the way to get a serious message across? Is that the way you expect a serious elected official to get his or her message across? Is this really the best that Team-Mayer can come up with?

I know that Team-Mayer would like to distance themselves from this literature and will surely offer the excuse that they have no control over the so-called PAC that published this literature. If you choose to believe that, well, I guess that is your prerogative and maybe you should ask Dan Hutchison how well his Pay-to-Play reform is working. I, my friends, know better. Personally, I would take it as an insult if Mr. Mayer seriously expected me to be naïve enough to believe that. Anybody who knows Dave knows nothing passes by without his knowledge; he’s too slick to roll any other way.

So, let me tie it all together…The fact is that Camden County has the 8th highest county taxes in the nation. Of the top ten, nine are in New York so I get the other nine. What I don’t get is why Camden County is the 8th highest. What is it that we have that would make our taxes so high? Okay, I’ll answer that for you…CORRUPTION…yes, in capital letters. And who is responsible for the corruption that has driven our taxes so high? Are you aware that the New Jersey Republican Party has all but given up on Camden County because the Democrats have run this County since before the earth cooled? And guess who is in the hip pocket of the Democrat party bosses of Camden County? Let me help you…Dave Mayer and his Merry Men (and women – I’d hate to leave anybody out).

Do you like your township taxes? Did your township taxes go up or down? Are they high enough yet? Dan Hutchison, part of Team-Mayer, has stated that everybody is getting pay raises so we should expect tax increases…in other words, pay your taxes and shut up about it.

Let’s do a little math…Camden County taxes are the 8th highest in the nation; GT Democrats are attached at the hip to the Camden County political bosses; GT debt is at approximately 100 million dollars; GT taxes, already too high…but guess where they’re going?

You decide if you want "smear campaign literature for idiots" or if you would rather our township's elected officials explain how we got to where we are and how they plan to make it better. Seriously Dave and Dan, the zero tax increase lie is getting old. How about coming out of hiding Mr. Mayer and explain how you are going to fix this town with more and more closed businesses and empty and foreclosed houses. The ball is in your court, Mr. Mayer, and, please, treat the voters with a little more respect than to pitch the kind of garbage like the attached literature.

See you in November and if Mr. Mayer or Mr. Hutchison, or whomever, wishes to address the real issues in town, we’ll be there.
