Alleged Thieves Caught in Taxi with 2 ATVs

Three Camden residents are behind bars after the incident.

Three accused burglars might be regretting the all-terrain vehicles they allegedly stole couldn't be used to flee from police.

The three Camden residents were jailed Tuesday after allegedly trying to steal three ATVs and an air compressor from a Gloucester Township shed. Police officers reportedly found two of them trying to carry an ATV away from the shed, with another ATV stashed in a nearby cab.

Officers responded to a call around the Buttonwood Village Apartments in Gloucester Township's Blackwood section at 3:13 a.m. Tuesday. Officers spotted two people carrying an ATV; the pair tried to flee but one was caught after a brief chase, police report.

A short time later, police saw a cab trying to leave the area with two ATVs in the trunk. The cab driver and a passenger were arrested. In all, three were charged in the alleged burglary.

Desiree Torres, 23, of the 400 block of Winslow St., and Matthew Howard, 18, of the 3000 block of Hartford Drive, were charged with burglary, conspiracy and theft.

Nevoro Young, 41, of the 1200 block of Lakeshore Drive, was charged with burglary, conspiracy, theft and resisting arrest.

All were held at Camden County Jail in default of bail.
