ATV Rider Critical After Glendora Crash

The patient's status had been upgraded to stable as of Wednesday afternoon, according to a Cooper spokeswoman.

A Glendora man was in critical condition after he crashed a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle into a tree near his Ridge Avenue home Tuesday afternoon.

Gloucester Township Police officers were dispatched to Ridge Avenue at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday after a 911 caller reported that someone had crashed an ATV into a tree there.

The arriving officers learned that 24-year-old Stephen Smarrito was unconscious after the crash, according to a press release issued by Lt. Edward Bryant.

Smarrito was treated at the scene, then transported to Cooper University Hospital, in Camden, where he was initially listed in critical condition.

Smarrito's was in stable condition as of Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m, Cooper spokeswoman Melissa Maycott said.

In addition to police, units from Gloucester Township EMS Alliance, Virtua Hospital, and the Blenheim, Chews Landing and Glendora fire stations responded to the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
