Berlin Man Charged with DWI After Crash

The one-vehicle crash shut down traffic on Evesham Road for hours Sunday night.

Police have charged a Berlin man with drunken driving after they say he crashed a pickup truck into a pole in the township's Glendora section Sunday evening.

Police and emergency medical units were dispatched to the 900 block of West Evesham Road at 6:46 p.m. on a report that a large pickup truck struck a utility pole there, Gloucester Township Police Sgt. James Garber said.

Arriving police units found the pickup and part of the utility pole, which split in two upon the truck's impact with it, in the middle of the road.

A witness reported seeing what police described as a large, white stake body pickup truck, which was pulling a trailer, traveling from Deptford Township swerve and then strike the utility pole, Garber said.

Police shut down Evesham Road between Station and Melvin avenues for approximately three hours as debris from the crash was cleared. Area residences lost power as a result of the crash.
