Berlin Man Charged With Promoting Prostitution at Adult Book Store

The Berlin News Agency on Route 73 in Berlin was shut down due to fire and health code violations.

A Berlin Township man has been charged with promoting prostitution and maintaining a nuisance following a police raid at an adult book store on Route 73, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Berlin Township Police Chief Leonard Check announced Wednesday afternoon.

Paul Perkins, 41, allegedly collected cash from customers and provided access to a rear portion of the Berlin News Agency store, where numerous sex acts were being performed.

The business is not a club with membership fees, making it illegal to receive payment for access to sexual activity.

It is also required by law to have the ability to monitor the rear areas either through security cameras or line of sight, which it allegedly doesn't.

Perkins is also accused of alerting customers when a female would be present in the rear of the business by Internet alerts and via app.

The Berlin News Agency was shut down due to fire and health code violations, and law enforcement recovered more than $27,000 during the raid.

The raid Friday followed approximately six months of investigation by the Berlin Township Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation into the business is ongoing.

"....making it illegal to receive access to sexual activity for payment." What am I missing here? When exactly is it "legal" (I understand that's the protocol in the so called gentlemens' clubs.

This standard for what goes on at adult movie theatres. I do not understand how it was illegal for the manager to text regulars that female was there. These places usually tell you when you walk in that you arent allowed to ask for or offer money to anyone in there.

I think this beating a dead horse but no one will accomplish anything with these arrests. It really is the oldest profession and there really is no stopping it. Likewise, it's like Rub Maps if anything else, just gonna coexist alongside the massage parlors.

This'll get tossed out of court. They weren't charging for sexual activity, any sex that happens is free between consenting adults. The place has been there for decades, and will be for decades more.
